For me it was the open middle field. Any team that was facing a 3rd and long simply called a play over the middle of the field for another first down.

Exactly like the FAU receiver that caught a pass between 4 USf defensive backs in the middle of the field.

I can see the defensive line improving, but not where near a top 5 defense unless the pass rush and pass coverage drastically improve. I think we move up about 20 to 30 spots in defensive rankings. I prefer the bend and not break defense with some attitude and nastiness in the trenches and backfield like the golden days.

We will be better because we gave up over 100 points to two prior CUSA opponents, 1/2 of that at homecoming, really really hard to be that bad if we tried.

If we can improve on offense with 3rd and 4th down conversion, it will help the defense as well. It doesn't help when you don't give your defense a little breather by going three and out. Especially with how fast our offense plays.

But what i liked last year, unlike previous year, there weren't as many running "chunk plays". We finally have a good run defense. We were ranked 7th for TFLs last year.

Good callout!  The run defense made it possible to win games again.

4th and 24...

Thanks, I was fairly intoxicated and left the game shortly after that moment

Yea. Problem is i don't see us turning that around in one season. I say that's looking much better in 25 once CAG has a couple classes that have developed.

We greatly improved for the Bowl. Was it just one game or the year of learning and extra practice?

I agree completely. Our defense should be better. My concern is that with our early schedule, that improvement must happen fast.

Bethune Cookman, @Alabama, @Southern Miss, Miami, @Tulane,nMemphis.

We need to be at worst 3-3 coming out of those first six, to compete for league. Really 4-2 if we want to talk about Playoffs rest of season.

2-4 and we could turn it around but the flash will be gone and we are looking at 7-5 or 8-4 at best

That was the fact that they didn't have a QB.  If the D-line keeps improving, then perhaps we could make other teams look like that as well.

It's not really one offseason though.  I think of the defense as a parabolic curve.  Each improvement helps the other position and they stack exponentially.  We know we radically improved the run defense last year and we are beefing up the D-line.  They added a new secondary coach.  Perhaps we start to see that curve trend up faster this year.  I am thinking it doesn't have to be totally world beating this year to win with this offense.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
