I think this is going to be contractually necessary if we are going to get our premiere name opponents to play their 1 for 2 in Tampa.  ND, Alabama and any other top, top tier B10 or SEC teams are not going to agree to play in our OCS.  BUT for Florida, FSU and Miami, they come to OUR house or we don't play them.  What you think?

Sure @MKelly already has figured it out.

Curious as to how many times in the modern era ND has played an away game in 40K or less stadium ...

I went back as far as 2008 and the smallest stadium on the road they've played consistently in is at Boston College cap. 44k.  The did visit Wake Forest in 2018 (likely part of the ACC agreement) which is 33k.

Figured it may have been ACC teams if there were any. Had no idea Wake's was that small, though ...

It would be disappointing if for some of these games we had to move back to Ray Jay. We want to showcase our OCS on national television.

We are already averaging close to 35,000 now and I have to believe that when we continue to improve and play relevant games, and we move on to the PAC or ACC that we would easily draw much better. Didn't we average close to 50,000 one year in the Big East?

More reason to make our stadium a little bigger, maybe closer to 45,000

We “average” 35k because the tickets are so cheap. That’s ticket sales, not attendance.

A lot of no shows. Just people holding tickets because they are cheap.

The lower capacity increases scarcity, prices will go up. I suspect actual attendance will go up with the prices.

I’m fine with a small stadium.

There might be some economics behind it too. We might need to sell every ticket to finance the stadium. Building out capacity we don’t use is costly.

Look at our future home games.  Are any going to sell like that?  We have ND coming in but I imagine that will not be played at Publix Stadium.

It depends what conference we are in. It depends on if we are relevant or not. I depends as to whether some of the these teams in our conference can get their act together. Back in the Big East days 35,000 capacity would have been a low number. I vividly remember those big crowds against WVU, Kansas, Cincy, UCF.. And you have to remember we never really took off while in the Big East, Can you imagine the crowds if we would have been a top tier team with conference championships on the line.

With everything that is going on you have to assume that will find ourselves in a bigger conference, that we will be relevant again, and that we will have tons of big games in Tampa.

Also regarding Notre Dame; we should never let an opponent decide where they will play us when we are at home.

Right but we should probably wait to find out before announcing the expansion.  Otherwise only the non conference games are going to pack the house.  For the current conference, 35k is probably a safe number.
