I read somewhere that it is anticipated that no additional Super Bowls or National Championships will be awarded to Raymond James as it’s currently configured.  Thus it needs a major renovation.

What is it lacking except a gaudy exterior like the newer ones?

One aspect of the renaissance of USF football is the steady increase in attendance at home games. Last Saturday’s home opener against Bethune-Cookman University

The Bulls have occasionally drawn good numbers there, too. A crowd of 65,138 turned out last year to watch USF battle Alabama.

Most of the time, though, there’s no urgency to get tickets because fans know they can always make a last-minute snap decision if they want to attend. It might seem contradictory to build a stadium with far fewer seats, but I’ll argue it makes sense.

Start with the fact that had the Bethune game been staged in the new stadium, it would have been a full house with a great atmosphere. That would be a tremendous marketing tool for a growing university.

Don’t think renderings will leak out before ground breaking ceremonies…

30 years seems to be the number before looking for something new.

Correct... 30 years tends to be the lifespan of stadiums.  Tampa Stadium ("The Big Sombrero") broke ground in 1966, opened in 1967 and closed in 1998 when RayJay opened.  RayJay broke ground in 1996 and opened in 1998.  Now, the new stadium was really needed because the old stadium had some significant structural issues in addition to the lack of modern amenities.

Tropicana Field, on the other hand, is a decade older - breaking ground in 1986 and opening in 1990.  It's no wonder the Rays have been pushing for a new stadium for a decade.

College stadiums tend to have longer lifespans, but most of the major college stadiums have had renovation projects of various kinds over the past 20 years, and many have plans for more renovation plans going forward.

I think that it is interesting that there is ZERO mention of the ground breaking ceremonies in the Alumni homecoming schedule.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
