What in the **** is going on. This is getting worse and worse by the day. Man it's gross the kind of things that are happening in the "amateur" world of "student" athlete driven sports. I would never say fold the program, but this nonsense is sucking the energy and fun out of it.

It's all about the money.   Winning doesn't seem to be that big of a factor.  It's about branding and getting revenue.

The affect of pending revenue sharing on these programs that have been raking in hundreds of millions annually is leading to this.

Serious question, where is the AAC on this?  Only a matter of time until we pimp ourselves out, might as well get in on the cash grab. Let’s get busy slinging that ass!

ESPN insider Pete Thamel explained why the Big Ten and SEC aren't under the same pressure to get creative raising money as the Big 12.

“The ACC and Big 12 don’t get nearly the same cut of that CFP revenue. Because of that there’s going to be creative ways (to raise money),” Thamel said. “And this ties back to the reasons why we’ve seen the Clemson lawsuit and the Florida State lawsuit to attempt to break the Grant of Rights and leave the ACC. They feel like they’ll be $20 million behind annually at least every year. So you stretch that out over 10 years it’s $200 million and they don’t feel like they have enough revenue to compete, so they’re trying a creative legal way to get out.”

Oh a related note, what about us here in the G5?  It  looks much more dire on a daily basis.

Well, eventually you have to accept that the business of college athletics is, in fact, a business. Get used to it. And you better get used to commercial logos midfield, which is but a steppingstone to NASCAResque uniforms for the athletes. Trust me, kids. Money matters. On the plus side, however, we don't have to keep dumping a gazillion dollars into facilities, it can finally go, well deserved, to those doing the heavy lifting: the athletes.  And if you want to compete, the best athletes available, you need that revenue stream. I think the old donor model may need to be revisited.

I don't always agree with this guy's numbers/way of expressing this thoughts - but I think he and I were on the exact same page when thinking about a cash infusion from PE for a conference. There has to be a payout, and it will come quicker than the conference members would probably like. The only way this makes sense is if the next TV contract, or additional sponsorship can come in and increase the revenue for the league. And guess where that will go? To the PE firm, not the schools. It's almost exclusively a net zero or negative for the individual schools. But hey, if they can get it to work? The AAC should also explore those options.

Big East men's basketball teams, including Dan Hurley's 2023 and 2024 squads, have won four of the last eight men's NCAA tournaments.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Upon the conclusion of the current 12-year deal, the Big East will have collected $500 million in rights fees, pulling in just shy of $41.7 million per year. Estimates of the value of the new agreements see the conference nearly doubling its annual rights payments at a range of $75 million to $80 million per year.

AAC football (2019 contract extension) is slightly ahead of Big East basketball (2024 contract).
