No one deserves to be shot for being out late, but your "risk" goes up hanging out at 3:30am.  That's just reality.  I hope he survives and makes a speedy recovery and others learn from this.  Everyone has the freedom to do what they choose, but there are real dangers out there.

Thank you for letting us know that the risk of getting shot goes up after midnight. It was such a needed statement. Everybody also has the freedom of not getting shot if they stay out late. I'm sure if the place closed before midnight, whoever shot him would still be out there. If society stayed home before midnight, then the bad guys would simply do their bad guy stuff b4 midnight.

Yes him being out late is beside the point. Who of us hasn't been out past midnight?

Feel horrible for him, his brother, and his family.

i hope he makes a full recovery.

Yes many college kids party into the wee hours of the morning across the country. It doesnt mean they deserve to get shot. Plenty of people get robbed or killed during the day as well.

Geez - EVERY TIME I read a story about a traffic fatality where someone died because they weren't wearing their seatbelt, I think to myself, "no seatbelt...smh."  NEVER EVER do I feel they deserved it.  You really shouldn't interpret a statement like that to mean something so cruel.

You can argue all day long if the choice we're critiquing is good, bad, or completely irrelevant, but don't assume we feel people deserve to get shot - that's just horrible.

Thanks for that, explained it nicely. I was just going to let that go because I regretted my original post, which was just a kind of a knee jerk reaction to the circumstances that destroyed one, possibly two, young men's lives.

Ironically i was out past midnight the past 3 nights in a row, in Chicago with old friends.  I agree with Gator on this one, at that age staying out that late was a normal occurrence, no need for any public service announcements about the risk of doing this.  I am sad to hear this, even though he bailed I liked this kid as a player and seemed like a good kid,  I hate seeing this, but am kinda numb to this nowadays, sending good thoughts his way!

Is it blood loss or was he shot in the head? Or do we know that at this time.
