University marketing met with Athletics before they released the logo. The meeting was mainly a type of focus group event. I vividly remember their pitch and then being put on the spot by Andrew Goodrich asking for my feedback on what our supporters would think of the logo. I basically said that the logo is going to be universally resented by those who support athletics. It was at this time that Joe Hice, who was with University marketing and a big proponent of the change, stated the logo was not going to be used for Athletics.

I'm not sure if Coach Strong said anything behind the scenes, but I know that the Coach who has the biggest concerns about what was being done was Coach Gregory. I remember him asking Joe Hice, "What are we trying to do here?", and there was no real solid answer to that question.

Hice. What a clown, thinking that was a good idea. But I guess we should thank him. The result was the entire university embracing a logo mark that is universally embraced and should NEVER be changed.

The most hilarious thing that came out of the meeting they had with us, is that Hice went back to his staff and said that Athletics was very receptive to the logo.
