NO T-MAN YOU DID NOT DREAM IT!

OH Crap This is now a nightmare!!  Newberg says Oliver  is still undecided!!!!

JUCO star QB transfers to USF (Not a false report! Just premature! Thanks for correcting Greg!)

TAMPA - Add another big-name contender to USF's wide-open quarterback battle this spring.

Jimmy Oliver, a prolific passer who has been named the national junior college offensive player of the year two seasons in a row, decided Monday he will sign with the Bulls as a midyear transfer Wednesday and compete for USF's starting job for 2006.

Oliver, a sophomore at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss., passed for 6,308 yards and 67 touchdowns in 21 games running the Wildcats' spread offense. He was 20-1 as a starter, throwing for a school-record 603 yards and six touchdowns in his loss this season.

"He's going to be a special player for USF," said Pearl River coach Tim Hatten, who has a defensive lineman, Frank Harry, who will also sign with USF. "He's made his decision and he's definitely going to sign there. If he gets on the field, he'll never get off of it down there."

Oliver, 6 feet and 175 pounds, made an official visit to USF on Dec.3 and attended the season finale. He becomes a top contender for the quarterback job, which could have as many as nine competitors before the season opener against McNeese State.

USF, which ranks 108th in passing offense out of 117 Division I-A teams, returns four scholarship quarterbacks, including junior Pat Julmiste, who started 10 games, and freshman Carlton Hill, a coveted recruit who replaced Julmiste in the season-ending loss to West Virginia. Sophomore Grant Gregory and freshman Matt Grothe, who redshirted this season, are also competing, as is third-year walk-on Anthony Severino.

The Bulls also have oral commitments from three high school seniors, Cape Coral's Nate Allen, Miami's Alwan Lee and Middleton's Dominic Grooms.

USF on Monday picked up an oral commitment from Aston Samuels, a 6-foot, 190-pound running back from Belle Glade Glades Central, according to recruiting site usfbullseye.com.

By the numbers and experience, this looks on paper to be the best fit for our offense at the QB position. Hope he pans out.
