When SMU leaves the legacy AAC members will be down to seven and the new CUSA additions are equal to six.

I hear you.  I don't think this is entirely a new thing and I also personally don't believe you have to sit in the stadium to be a fan or support your team.   I think there are other factors that influenced that.  Now jumping on and off the bandwagon so to speak is a different thing in my book.

Rays are great example of that. Great TV ratings but crap attendance.

That’s probably the difference right there. You go as a sign of support where other people go to see a good competitive game or to see top talent. Some go to support, but also want to see a good game. Also many support with dollars, so it’s probably OK for them to want to see the best product possible. 

This is an example of what you get from blind support.
