College football attendance is dropping, but the problem is much bigger than most people know.

Out of the 100 schools the Journal surveyed, all but one announce the total tickets sold (or distributed, since schools often give out free tickets) as their attendance, as opposed to tickets scanned. Some schools even count stadium staff, the marching band, and the media among their attendance numbers.

These football games are taking too long. Plus the power conferences greed has been terrible for college football

Exactly, if you're not in a power conference, your program is for all intents and purposes dead. Currently USF is the man dieing of thirst in the desert. Nothing we can really do except roll over and die or trek on and hope to find a watering hole. We're trekking on at the moment but I think many have given us up for dead.

Yeah, I'm thinking that may be a little on the histrionic side. There has been, and will be, life outside the "P5", but obviously there are some that don't appear to agree with that when it comes to USF ...... it'll be interesting to see how long those that feel that way, and are still here, hang on.

What did they announce?  I didn't hear.  There were some people sprinkled around the shaded home side seats, but the rest of that field of bleachers was pretty sparse.  Some were hiding up high in the shade too.  Still, a very crummy crowd.

Ok, I am not as good as Joey or even Greg at counting butts in seats, but UAB had to have been less than half that number.  Far less.

 

Having food and bev both before and after the game at spots around the stadium indicated very few hospitality workers (not necessarily ucif grads) who both knew of UAB and knew who they were playing.

I was watching on tv and I thought I was watching a bowl game where USF traveled just about as many fans that UAB traveled lol

There was a real sense of indifference in the area about UAB.  That probably goes for most AAC schools, especially the 6 or 8 new ones that got added.

I will say this. If Trent Dilfer’s offense continues to do what they did this past weekend then he will probably get hired away. I don’t see the fan support at UAB that would be able to keep their coaches if they do well

Keep in mind our defense has been known to disappear. 

Consistency is key for Dilfer's offense as well as our defense.  I don't know much about Trent's offense, but I do know our defense has shown flashes of capability but have also shown replays of what made it the worse in the country last year.

We helped make the blazing iguanas look good.
