DALLAS, Texas (January 24, 2023) – After a trip to Philadelphia to face Temple on Wednesday, the University of South Florida Bulls will now head to Dallas to take on SMU Sunday and wrap up a two-game road trip.

The Bulls and Mustangs will tip off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

South Florida is coming off a 79-76 overtime loss at Temple on Wednesday where the Bulls overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half to force the extra period. Keyshawn Bryant paced the offense with a season-best 21 points off the bench for his fifth career 20-point game. Corey Walker Jr. tallied season highs in points (8), rebounds (8), assists (3) and steals (3) at Temple.

Wednesday was USF's first overtime game since December 22, 2020 at Wichita State.

The Bulls are 2-2 over their last four games heading into Sunday's matchup at SMU. The Mustangs have lost two straight, and six of their last seven overall. SMU has won two of the last three meetings with the Bulls. USF is looking for its first win in Dallas since February 7, 2019.

Russel Tchewa and Selton Miguel each scored 15 points in Wednesday's setback at Temple. Tchewa is averaging 11.4 ppg and 7.7 rpg this season. He is averaging 13 points and 8.6 rebounds over eight AAC games. Tchewa ranks third in the league overall in rebounding and fourth in shooting percentage (61%). Miguel is averaging 11 ppg and has a team-best 71 assists.

Tyler Harris continues to pace the USF offense with 16.5 ppg and has 68 total assists. The fifth-year senior has recently reached and is closing in on several more milestones:

  • Scored a then-career high 31 points at No. 1 Houston on Jan. 11
    • It was the first 30-point game for a USF Bull since David Collins (31) vs. Stony Brook on March 20, 2019
  • Topped that with a new career high of 33 points vs. UCF on Jan. 21
    • Went 13-for-13 from the free throw line to set a new USF single-game record for most FT made without a miss
    • Scored 20 of his 33 in the second half to become the first USF player with a 20-point half since Laquincy Rideau (4/3/19 at DePaul in the CBI)
  • Harris is the first Bull with a pair of 30-point games in a season since Corey Allen Jr. (2014-15)
    • Only the 11th player in program history with at least two 30-point games
  • Harris needs 13 more three-pointers to set a new AAC career record (265 – Christian Vital, UConn, 2016-20)
  • He needs 29 more triples to set a new USF single-season record (88 – Derrick Sharp, 1991-92)

Following Sunday's tilt, the Bulls return home to Tampa and will host ECU on Wednesday, February 1. That game is set as USF's Equality & Inclusion Game on the first day of Black History Month, and will feature a special recognition and the return of Arthur Jones (1971-74). Jones was the first African-American student-athlete at the University of South Florida.

SMU having a 56.6 percent chance of winning tomorrow based on espn analytics. Who and how do they come up with that number? Its a rhetorical question.

I think we should be favorites to win tomorrow. We are much better than SMU this season.

How are we much better than SMU?  We're both 2-6 in conference and they're at home

Maybe a little better. They are  7-14, we are 9-12. They lost by 30 against UCF, while we beat them comfortably. Also their two wins in conference against Tulsa, the worst team in our conference.  But your point is fair and there is probably not much difference between the teams. We will find out tomorrow

If Harris has a big day, we win ...  if not then it's a crap shoot
