Ironically I was benching with 2 plates one each side and with chains for resistance and speed today. It seems these strength coach is taking the old school proven method of using chains to create explosiveness and resistance. It is one of the best ways to get bigger, faster, and stronger.  Good to see the boys pushing nice weight on the safety squat bar, bench press, and box squats with chains.

I never knew what the chains were for lol

Me, too.  And when we DO get a stop, they go for it on 4th down.  Our opponents have learned that the odds are in their favor to go for it on 4th down and 7.  Only way to change that is to get some stops.

Yeah it adds resistance and some weight. It is more about the resistance than the weight. Some people prefer bands now days but chains are the goat in the eyes. It I'd a proven method.  I can send you research on it if you want to know why it is so effective.  I am going to post using ets since we were using their safety squat bar. There are thousands of studies and research on it.

I think our opponents just learned to go for it on every down in recent years because they had a high chance of getting the first  down or scoring. You and Gator are right we need to step up on defense. Time to get back to getting aggressive and nasty on defense.

Im not sure if this new conditioning coach is making a difference, but our team looks much more"athletic" in photos since CAG got hired.

I mean outside of last year Iowa was competitive with limited resources  compared to Oklahoma  and Texas. They were always known for big powerful  lines on both sides of the ball  and had players drafted from both sides.  I respect that and that is what we have even lacking.  Time to get bigger, stronger , and faster everywhere especially  in the trenches.  Football games  are won and lost on the front lines. It is really hard to win games with  bad play on either line. Last year the oline did their part. I respected  the hell  out of the oline coach.  He talked the talk and was grounded in reality.  He said if the staff couldn't win in year 3 then they all should be fired. He did his part  and trickett did their part. The rest of of staff did not.  Maybe del Prado  special  were solud, but the best special teams coach couldn't cover for the defense and head coaching decisions.

Nothing is worst than when it's 3rd down and not only do they get the first down, but do it with a 20+ yard run or score a TD.
