We got a new player. Not listed on the roster yet. Looks like a DE.

Rico Watson (0) Defensive Lineman

Another undersized linemen. IT seems we are recruiting for a 3-4-3 defense but running a 3-3-5 defense. Add more skill and talent to the dline never hurts though. At least they are out trying to address the defense. Coach Patrick was pretty good at finding some diamonds in the rough.

He looks bigger than 222 in the pic on twitter. Pretty decent stats at his last school.

I hope it is a typo and he is 322. We need some big beefy boys on the dline bad expecially for a 3-3-5.

I compared the resumes side by side -

CJS -

2006 Blythewood HS (HeadCoach)
2007 Presbyterian (WR)
2008 Clemson (WR)
2008–2014 Clemson (WR/RC)
2015–2019 Clemson (co-OC/WR)

CAG -

2021-22 Tennessee Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends
2020 UCF Co-Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends
2016-19 Iowa State Tight Ends/Recruiting Coord.
2015 Illinois Tight Ends/Special Teams Coord.
2014 Illinois Running Backs/Tight Ends/Recruiting Coord.
2012-13 Illinois Tight Ends/Recruiting Coord.
2009-11 Toledo Tight Ends/Recruiting Coord.
2008 Oklahoma State Graduate Assistant
2006-07 Northern Illinois Graduate Assistant
2004-05 Ohio State Student Assistant

Apples and oranges.

The best place Golesh has coached besides his one year at Tenessee has been UCF (gross), for one year as a Co-OC. That's not impressive at all.

Sure CJS had spent most of his time at just Clemson, but he was part of a transformation from a mid-major ACC to a top-tier blue chip program and has a couple of National Title rings - one as co-OC - to go with his resume. Clemson was not what it is today until Dabo came along, let's be honest. So this whole "Clemson recruits itself with blue chips" is something that became a thing only within the last decade.

Obviously, CJS was in over his head and he will probably go down as one of the worst fbs HCs in history, but if you were to give me those two resumes in paper alone, the one with the NCs and the rebuilding background is way more attractive as a candidate. Coach Go might be even more of a risk than CJS was, which is scary af.

He was a PWO at Florida State prior to Robert Morris.

I don't think you understand my point. It's about being exposed/working with multiple different types of programs, systems, and coaches. Ohio State, Tennessee, UCF, Iowa State, Illinois, Toledo, Oklahoma State, and Northern Illinois. That is at least 8 different coaching staffs and systems. CJS has only been exposed to only one coaching staff and one rebuild. CAG was part of multiple rebuilds (Tenn & Iowa State). Also, CAG actually called plays as an offensive coordinator for the country's #1 offense. CAG had to work his way up. CJS pretty much had things handed to him having a father that was a football coach.

This is debated:

5bce2420-3948-48ed-8620-fe1593784e1a-KNS

Tennessee coach Josh Heupel and offensive coordinator Alex Golesh declined to identify the offensive play-caller heading into Tennessee’s opener against Bowling...

In fact, many Tennessee fans did not feel as though Golesh was a huge loss because they believed he did not actually call plays.

So if that's true, it makes Golesh's inexperience even more glaring.

And yeah I guess we'll agree to disagree, but on paper alone, CJS's resume is better than Golesh's. Being the TE coach at Toledo/Illinois/Iowa State/UCF doesn't move much of a needle.

And what Offensive Coordinator awards or finalists did CJS make? I'll wait on that one.
