Not sure I understand what you are saying. The "haves" don't care that much about winning?

I would say it is second place to money, yes.

Here we go again with the money argument.  How many wins or conference titles has that money contributed to?

What's the "money argument"? More money has the same guarantee for wins and conference titles that less money does but is there something wrong with wanting more money?

That can be said in some cases of professional sports but doesn't make any sense to try and apply that to college sports. If money was more important why would they bother to waste money putting it back into facilities?

So you take in more money and continue to lose as Rutgers does?  What's the benefit of the extra money? Besides overpaying for coaches and ADs?

Rutgers is an extreme example. TCU and Pitt have had success, while West Virginia and Louisville have been average. Rutgers is the only example where they have had zero success. Syracuse as had a hard time finding success as well, but they weren't exactly world beaters while in the Big East

Its not because Rutgers haven't had success since having joined a Power 5 conference that we wont be able to find success once we do.

Its always better to be in a Power 5 conference, and to have more money then less money.

So, again, what's the "money argument"? We shouldn't want to get to a better paying conference because the financial boost doesn't guarantee success on the field? I'm not getting this ...

The extra money doesn't guarantee success on the field, including WVU, Syracuse, Maryland and our beloved RU. Being in a better conference is good for various reasons (better opponents coming in to watch and maybe more name recognition) but not just the money.

I have this argument with my father-in-law all the time. He lives and dies with WVU football - and hoops to a lesser degree. He’s always telling me how much TV $$ they’re bringing in as a member of the Big XII and I always ask him the same thing - “What’s your cut?”

When they were in the Big East, they were Top 25 ranked every year and beating Oklahoma and Georgia in BCS bowls. Hoops was almost annually in the Sweet 16 under Belein and Huggins. My father-in-law was enjoying every minute of it. Now, as a fan, he’s watching .500 teams most every year.

The moves have worked out monetarily for all those old Big East football schools, but not for the fandom at all.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
