If we recruit enough offensive talent, we can just flip them over to defense...

That is how Leavitt made Selvie an NFL player. Flipped him from OL to defense and that made Selvie famous

Just as a frame of reference on recruiting going back to 2015 this is the second worst class except for 2020( covid year) per rivals. I know it looks only at high school recruits so just take it as one point of data. Point being that recruiting is not better this year then under Scott or Strong.  Doesn't mean there isn't enough talent to win, and hopefully coach Golesh is a better coach then Stong and Scott.  Rivals Ranking since 2015 below;

2015: 58th

2016: 70th

2017 69th

2018: 58th

2019: 65th

2020: don't see us in the top 100

2021: 60th

2022: 87th

2023: 90th

Looking at rankings is not a good measure. So far we only have 12 HS recruits and only 11 have been rated so our score would be low. Now if you want to look at avg recruit ranking then

2023= 84.49 #5 in AAC, #2 in returning AAC teams. #4 in new AAC. Could go higher after tomorrow

2022= 84.65 #5 in AAC

2021= 84.14 # 6 in AAC

2020= 83.13 # 7 in AAC

2019= 83.19 # 5 in AAC

2018= 83.59 # 3 in AAC

2017= 81.65 # 5 in AAC

2016= 84.07 # 2 in AAC

Those are some interesting numbers right there .....

Thanks for calculating this. Very interesting, and it seems that recruiting since 2016 has been fairly stable. So the worst year we were still 7th in conference. Its reassuring, and it suggests that we should have enough talent on this team to win

Definitely not to finish last as we have done recently. At worst we should be middle of the road in conference. Which goes back to development and coaching

Just curious, what do you think would make the major recruiting services skip rating a player?

I think major recruiting services are a business and priority to rating would be to players being recruited by schools from major conferences. Those usually would have higher number of subscribers that will pay and click to see who they are landing.

Money to be made selling their information to recruiting sites and the other secret ingredients that no one else knows.

So a no-star recruit that isn't even listed on any of the services has nothing to do with said player's potential or ability?
