If your DLine is getting manhandled one on one as ours was, then it allows blockers to get to Linebackers and block them. We couldn’t put pressure on passer and we couldn’t stop the run. Our main issue was DLine and that affects the rest of defense. At the end we had to move Hanford at 250 to play DT.

if our DLine improves, you will see improved LB and DB stats

Exactly. We were dead last defensively with who people are saying were “good” at their position. Noone was good on the worst defense in the country. Literally anyone freshman we swap in or transfer can do no worse than the last ranked defense in country. So we will take any and all who want to come. Take a guy off street who is big body and teach him how to play. We are literally terrible so i would start as many new players as possible in his first year.

Looks like an unrated player committed today.

Gonna have to trust the staff on this one that they found a diamond in the rough. Looks like his only other DI offer was from FAU. Offers from Clarke University? Iowa Wesleyan? Thiel College? Gannon University? Norwich University? Could this kid be a preferred walk-on?

That would require a level of patience rarely tolerated on this board.  At the first loss, it would be Coach's fault for not getting seasoned players from the portal ready to win at least six games and maybe a NY6 bowl.  You've seen the posts.  We have some fans believing that we could compete for a CC first year and we don't even have a full staff or full team.  The rants and Fireveryone.com websites would cap off that decision.  Good idea, but not sure that this is the time that our fan base would be satisfied with an obvious long term project.

We are getting there. We are patient while we watch USF get there

Correct. That’s why on the DLine. We need transfers that can play right away and let our HS recruits beef up before moving in to play. Is no surprise that as bad as we were at DT last year, our HS recruits were redshirted. That’s the one position were very few freshmen that USF can get would be big and strong enough to compete from get go.

I would disagree, most of us want to watch a competent Defense that isn’t the worst in all of college football.  If they are as bad next year as this year then I won’t watch them much, not because I am spoiled but because they aren’t even remotely competitive and I find no enjoyment in watching trash.

Bottom line, as bad as the defense was last year, if nothing else it gave younger players experience,  which we hope turns into better play. We're rarely getting players you can just plug'n'play so thinking replacing all the players on defense is some kind of a strategy is kind of silly.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
