Iowa State confirmed Wednesday that QB coach Joel Gordon is no longer with the program. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported he's taking a similar job at USF.

This is pretty exceptional to be pulling a P5 position coach into what amounts to a lateral move. These guys believe in Coach Go!

What I should have said was I have never heard of these names until they were hired here. I don’t know much anything of their pasts or what they have done schematically. DDP, of course I know who he is.

Yea, a 3* recruit at Perry High School in Glendale, Arizona. During the 2017 season, Purdy threw for 4,410 yards and 57 touchdowns (an Arizona Conference 6A record), while rushing for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns. Purdy won Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year honors after his 2017 season. Purdy finished his career with 8,937 passing yards and 107 touchdowns while averaging a 3.8 GPA.

Source: USF is expected to hire Matt Birkett as the school's next cornerbacks coach. He's the corners coach at James Madison, where he coached as part of elite FCS defenses and helped the school successfully transition to the FBS and compete immediately in the Sun Belt.

I really like that Coach Golesh has pulled his first staff together from a variety of sources, including P5 schools

This is opposed to CJS who raided FAU lock, stock and barrel - Amazing what one can do when they get to work right away as opposed to helping another school win a NC . . .

I'll be more of the negative Nancy here but I think people are being more generous about Trickett because the defensive side of the ball was just so historically bad by comparison (literally 131/131 in nation)

My take regarding Trickett is you can look at the "points for" stats across all AAC teams and USF was still 3rd worst.  Plus in more than 1 game our scoring came when the opponent was already up 25+ points.  I mean, the first game of our season when we were healthiest we were down 38-7 at the half.  I was at the game screaming for more shots down field but I swear they only took about 3 in that first half.  And as some have already said, when games were on the line the offense could not deliver.  Our final game of the season *someone* egregiously called for 3 plays in a row of rpo/running up middle when we needed a first down to win.  Instead we punted to our 131st ranked defense after the 3 and out at the 50 yd line. (Spoiler we lost when they drove down field right after)

Honestly I think the biggest source of goodwill for our fans came from our offensive game plan against Florida...which I admit was EXCELLENT.  But still that was just one game.  Here are some more points

- it seriously took like 5 games to get our first passing TD

- our original starting QB was posting numbers this year that were worse than he did his previous year at Baylor

- a QB who was 4th string in the summer (and ended up starting the last 3 games due to many reasons) showed more poise, accuracy and explosiveness than any other QB we saw.  So talent evaluation is a little sus.
