I’ve never seen anyone downplay the good he did here just not a willingness to extrapolate it to anything beyond ccs’ first season and the departure of Flowers. I mean maybe he is able to continue being successful here if he were to stay but the growing evidence seems to look like he made a good team, which is not program rebuilt sustainable success that some people try to make people accept simply because he left on his only upswing in his career. That’s not to say he didn’t bring in some of the best players we have had, anyone was calling for his head at that point, that he shouldn’t have done it, that it wasn’t a good year, that it wasn’t set up to be successful the next year but that is to say that you have to have a second act in order for people to not think it was a fluke in comparison to the rest of your long career (that could have been here or anywhere else).

Sure he turned the program around but he was helped by his great recruiting. Look how bad he's struggled since leaving us. He was fine at Oregon with a stacked roster. He was mediocre at fsu and he was not good at fau.

 

I loved what he did here and I would easily take those results again but not from Willie. I don't think he would be able to recruit as well. What kids are gonna buy into a guy that couldn't succeed with all the resources in the world at Oregon and FSU

It seems USF was Willy's peak and now we are witnessing his downfall.
