That has been one of our biggest issues as a program. We need to pick one - offense or defense - and focus on it with every HC hire here on out. Might've been a problem with Skip (offense) after Leavitt (defense) and definitely from Taggart (offense) to Strong (defense).

I remember reading Bud Foster was going after the USF job after Leavitt got fired and thinking that would've been an amazing choice as it would've kept the whole 'tough defense first' mentality going. But instead, we keep flip-flopping our identity.

couldn't agree more. we have to have an identity as a program. much easier to sustain success when hiring like minded guys. we have a lot of offensive talent now. to go to a defensive minded coach means that it will be a total rebuild.

Tom Herman is the guy. I could see a drastic improvement next year with him at the helm. Plus complete opposite of Scott.

yeah I'm thinking the same as long as he can recruit this state.

Seth mentioned a name I LOVE

Brian Johnson.

  • QB for Utah when they beat Bama in the sugar bowl. Playing a high level at QB brings a different understanding to the game.
  • Mississippi State QB coach for Dak Prescott and Nick Fitzgerald
  • Gators playcaller in 2020 when Trask set all those records
  • Eagles QB coach these past 2 years, turning Jalen Hurts into a stud NFL QB

Instead of me writing a bullspen love letter, I'll simply say, I'd love to have Coach Willie Taggart and his swagger back here at USF.

No head coaching experience, though. Can't do that again after what we just went though, IMO.

Whoever we hire, just keep an eye out for Joey Knight's prediction. He'll probably be right.

Tom Herman be the type of p5 fired coach to go after.

Way better success at Texas than Strong had.

Him and Mullen are the only fired P5 coaches I'm interested in.

Deion Sanders should be interviewed to see if he would be interested in coaching at USF. He would bring in the top players and he would have the right coaches to get the job done. Deion would have an impact that the great Coastal Carolina Coach (Joe Moglia) had, it's about more than football. Deion Sanders and Tom Herman would be my top 2 choices.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
