It would go from pity to disdain and for some hatred... and I mean outside of Oviedo.

USF would go from the little school that couldn't ... to a villain for a lot of the sports world... and many in the Tampa Bay community.

John Gruden would not be viewed as the underdog.  Otherwise, he would have found a job already ... be it coaching or on TV somewhere.

Boosters wanted him out... they want someone who can actually win the Big Ten Championship and go to the playoffs.  (See also: Frank Solich, Nebraska)

It is far better to be hated than pitied. Many have had success in being the villain, no one had ever been successful being the pitiful lovable loser. This is what a no wake path looks like and it’s far uglier than being uncouth

Do this members of the tampa community currently cheer for UsF and donate to USF? If not who the hell cares. I can tell you Kalta who has a lot of influence on Tampa Bay would be all in on this.

I get that USF fans want to make a flashy hire... but that doesn't work out well (see: Stong, Charlie).  Urban Meyer and John Gruden would open USF up to (potential) controversy that would just be a distraction from everything USF needs to do.

Speculation like that sets up expectations that will make you unhappy when USF doesn't hire the coach you really wanted.

Hell, I'd settle for Rich Rodriguez if we want someone with a high profile.

Rich would be solid but no way he comes here also equal as likely myers and gruden will not come here.

I don’t, money is better spent on players than anything else as it isn’t guaranteed long term and can be diversified to a greater degree so as not to require one single hire to be a home run. CJS ‘ failure and CCS’ failure was largely attributed to talent levels, you know who is an excellent recruiter? Money.
