Looking Ahead..Next Year? Rebuilding?

I read somewhere that CJL "sacrificed" last year in order to have the better team THIS year...to make a grand entrance into the Big East.

But, as the season progresses I'm becoming more concerned about next season. We are kicking butt this year and getting alot of positive press.  I don't want USF to be written off in 06.  We need to have some back-to-back winning seasons to really turn heads.

For those of you down in the nuts and bolts of our roster...what are your thoughts on next year?

I'm not overly concerned about next season...we lose obviously our best player in Hall but Ponton has looked good in mop-up duty and I would not be surprised it we recruit a top RB with some thinking that could pick up where Hall left off and start right away. The rest of our team is fairly young. My biggest concern continues to be QB and we will have what we have now plus Grothe so that's a positive  :)

Nope.

"...Unless the prognosticators followed the program closely, they had no idea that Leavitt essentially sacrificed last season to get a jump-start on this one, playing 20 freshmen earlier than they were ready and redshirting several valuable seniors.

I really thought this year would be a rebuilding one.  We're still young.  The next 2 years, whew, watch out!  Our D is going to mature.  On offense, hopefully we can get a QB that makes plays.  The loss of Hall will hurt, but we can still have some guys step up.

Mike, do you care to respond to the actual question I posed? Otherwise, buzz off.  >:(

Brad..FYI: I've been posting here only for about 3 months. The biggest problem you're going to have in getting new guys to stick around on this board is people like USFMikeB, who seem to have made it their personal mission to humiliate "stupid newbies" (apparently like myself).

Instead of helping and encouraging new USF fans, there seems to be a large amount of hostility towards newcomers who didn't spend 2 years researching the history of USF athletics. I have never seen a more internally hostile message board in my life.

So many potential fans run off by just a few jerks.  Sad. :-[

USF97...I was impressed with Ponton as well. Made me feel MUUUCH better about Hall being gone next year.

Zonald...hope you're right.  Wonder what our D will be like in 2 years??

Whoa, where's this coming from, Griggsy? I've only seen Mike lay the verbal smackdown on "cee." Or are you "cee" with a changed name? What potential fans has Mike run off? I'd assume if someone had the desire to get a name on here, they're no casual fan, and if they are, I've seen none "run off" thus far.

Mike was a huge student leader, and he was very involved with the school. The Senate President has a bird's-eye view of the internal aspects of the university like few other students can, and Mike was more involved that most Senate Presidents in such things.

Of course, I was one of those few students outside of the presidency who involved myself in such things. But I have a huge respect for all Mike did while at USF.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
