Only those who are satisfied with mediocrity are sad that Leavitt is gone.

It doesn't really matter if you have a maligned definition on mediocrity, the problem is the damage to the program.  The program that was on the rise, setting records, building a following.  Leaders failed to capitalize on it and instead gave in to pressures and gutted the program.

Nothing I despise more than the "replicate UCF" argument.  Let's see shall we

- Lie & cheat the state out of funds in order to build facilities

- Have 2 successive university presidents resign due to covering up said scandal

- Break the NCAA rules to attract players

- Build the cheapest possible stadium that launches without water fountains, credit card payments, and shakes like a rickety boat when the crowd gets loud

- Build a stadium on such a shoestring budget that it's falling apart within 10 years, requiring emergency repairs so as not to inflict massive casualties

- Build a tiny stadium so unnatractive that Alabama would pick a (low turnout) USF in RayJay than UCF in Orlando

- Become an insufferable fanbase plagued by victim hood because their best season didn't end with a playoff invite.

UCF *did* make the right call to prioritize their football program.  No question about that.  Wanting to replicate how they did it is laughable and insulting.  Willie T had the best response, 'hell no' as to whether we do it like them.

He did more with less.  He was by far our most successful  coach.

That doesn't mean he wasn't mediocre.

Downgrading to the AAC from the Big East did the most damage in my opinion, but I do agree with you about leaders failing to capitalize.

Agreed, it hurt to read that.

We were on top of the world and opted for a ego-driven implosion.  And now we have to replicate the Central Florida?

A sad tale.

It's all facts though.  It's not a sad tale if we can.

Thank you Judy for firing Jim. It worked wonders for our football program.

Agreed…Judy also changed The admission standards for student athletes and that ****** us over royally. Finally, Doug Wollard performed the coup de grace by hiring a coach who was overwhelmed and did not hire the appropriate assistants. Further he invested infrastructures into olympic sports instead of his bread and butter football program. Totally dumb idea. This whole situation was the perfect shitstorm of bad decisions. Now here we are…

Gotta stop looking back, boys, and do something to affect the future in a positive way. I know it feels like a really big "if" right now, but if we can get athletics turned back in the right direction, we'll all be thankful that the leadership was focused on - and invested in - building the university's academic reputation the way it has. To put it in sports vernacular, our academics have gone from the Weed-Wacker Bowl to at least an Outback or Gator Bowl. Time for athletics to follow - and it looks at though the new leadership that's in place realizes it. Get behind it.

Let’s not forget how Harlan carried this mess forward by hiring the turd trifecta of Orlando Antigua, Chuckles and Brian Gregory of which 2 out of the 3 ended up getting us on NCAA probation without any success realized on the court or field while also pissing off quite a few of the heavy donors.  I swear, I sometimes wonder if Harlan wasn’t an Oviedo plant designed to bring us down from within.   You can’t fail this bad unless it’s intentional.

At the end of the day the program did a terrible job in hiring the right people while ucf did not miss on any of their hires. That is the real difference.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
