Yuengling Center, Muma College of Business, and the Rec Center all are underground as well.

Wasn't there when they were built, but if you build up land you can have a basement.

Water table is what I was going for.

I know, it simply is not doable, the same reason their are zero basements in Tampa.

Yuengling and the Rec Center are both enclosed spaces, so not subject to flooding from rain.

I know the engineers on this will solve the problem... so this is just a message board conversation ... but an open field sunk 20-30 feet into the ground in Florida gives the impression for potential drainage issues in a way that a building's "basement" won't.

The lowest part of the Tampa campus is the lowest part of the campus -- several meters lower than the area by the Sun Dome / Muma College of Business.

What is the benefit in putting the field below ground level?

the earth provides the support. no need for support pillars in the lower bowl or anything like that.

check out this video of SDSU's stadium construction and you'll see how it looks like they are just resting seats on dirt (they aren't) in the lower bowl.

Pretty cool. Don't think we have that luxury.

So I know Florida is getting crazy expensive, but wouldn’t the construction costs be lower here than in San Diego? I know they started building in 2020, but just in todays money.
