Men’s Basketball Celebrates Senior Day Sunday with Key AAC Game with USF

PHILADELPHIA – Temple will honor its graduating seniors on Sunday (2 p.m./ESPN+/1210 AM WPHT) and look to clinch a bye in the upcoming 2022 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championships.

A win over visiting South Florida (8-21. 3-14 AAC) would give Temple (16-11, 9-7 AAC) a first-round bye in the tournament and a likely meeting with Tulane in the quarterfinal round.  A loss would most likely push the Owls to sixth place and a date with the 11th seed, either South Florida or Tulsa, in an opening round game.

Temple will also be looking to extract revenge on USF, which beat the Owls 52-49 in Tampa on a desperation three-pointer with 20 seconds on the clock.

GAME PROMOTIONS
> Doors to the IBC Entrance (across from the Liacouras Center Garage) will open at Noon for "Temple on Tap."  From 12 p.m. - 1 p.m., take advantage of discounted domestics, imports, crafts, food, soft beverages, and more behind Section 116!
> All other doors to the arena will open at 12:30 p.m. for Hooter's Birthday Party activities.  Kids will have the opportunity to take part in games, meet and receive autographs from local mascots, take pictures with Elsa and Spider-Man, watch a magic act, get their faces painted, and receive balloons.  All activities will remain open through halftime.
> "Senior Day" pre-game festivities will begin at approximately 1:45 p.m.
> One fan will have the opportunity to win a 2022 Audi A4 Sedan!

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Damian Dunn, who has scored in double figures a team-high 20 times, leads the Owls in scoring (14.7 ppg/7th AAC) and free throw percentage (112-135, .830/5th AAC).

> Nick Jourdain (7.0 ppg), who scored a career-high 23 at Tulsa, leads TU in blocks (1.7 bpg/2nd AAC), and offensive rebounding (2.4 pg/4th AAC) while is second in overall rebounding (5.3 rpg/18th AAC).
> Jahlil White (7.34ppg), who came off the bench to tie his career scoring high (17 pts) at Memphis, leads the team in rebounding (5.8 rpg/12th AAC).

> USF is led by Caleb Murphy and Javon Greene. Both guards Murphy leads the team in scoring 11.4 ppg and assists (95) while Greene tops the team in three-pointers (42) and the AAC in steals (1.8 pg) while averaging 9.2 ppg.

TAMPA (March 5, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls head to Philadelphia for their regular season finale in search of a third straight win over Temple ahead of the AAC Tournament which begins next Thursday in Fort Worth, Texas.

South Florida has won two straight against Temple, four of the last five overall, and two straight in Philadelphia.

The Bulls beat the Owls in the opening round of the conference tournament last season, 73-71, and defeated Temple in Tampa last month, 52-49. Javon Greene hit a go-ahead three-pointer in that contest with 20 seconds left on the clock.

Greene is averaging 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game this season. His steals/game leads all players in the AAC. Caleb Murphy has paced the USF offense all season long, averaging 11.4 points, a year after averaging 8.3 and being named to the AAC All-Freshman Team.

Center Russel Tchewa is averaging 12.1 ppg over his last 10 (7.9 season average) and has scored in double digits four straight games, and seven of the last 10 overall. He posted a career-high 18 points at ECU on February 23.

Corey Walker Jr. tallied his first career double-double on Thursday against Memphis, posting a career high in points (12) and matching highs in rebounds (11) and blocks (4). The freshman forward is averaging 8.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.6 steals over his last seven games.

Temple is 10-3 at home this season with their last loss in Philadelphia coming against nationally-ranked Houston, 66-61, on January 2.

Damian Dunn is the Owl's leading scorer (14.7 ppg) and one of their top rebounders (4.2). Nick Jourdain is averaging 1.74 blocks/game and Temple ranks 33rd in the country in blocked shots/game (4.8). The Owls also rank 40th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds/game (12.07).

Temple defends the three-point line well, holding teams to a 30.1% clip (31st in the NCAA). The Bulls have had their struggles from three-point range at times this season, but have shot better than 33% from downtown in five of their last seven games.

Only tournament game I've been to. Couldn't stay for the next day vs Ohio I believe.
