TAMPA (March 2, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls return home from a two-game road trip for their final game of the season at the Yuengling Center in Tampa against the Memphis Tigers. Thursday night's game is senior night where USF will honor Javon Greene along with a pair of team managers, Ryan Arevalo and Brandon Chymczuk.

The Bulls are coming off a dramatic 56-54 win on the road at Cincinnati last Saturday where Russel Tchewa hit the game-winning shot as time expired.

Tchewa has been on a tear offensively for South Florida as of late and is averaging 12 points over his last nine games. The center has scored in double digits in three straight and six of the last nine games overall, including a career-high 18 points at ECU last Wednesday.

Since January 8, Tcehwa has raised his scoring average from 4.9 to 7.7. Caleb Murphy continues to pace the Bulls' offense with 11.4 ppg followed by Javon Greene (9.3) and Jamir Chaplin (8.9). Chaplin returned from a four-game absence due to an ankle injury last Saturday.

Corey Walker Jr. has made in presence felt on both ends of the court as the freshman forward continues to blossom night in and night out. Walker Jr. is averaging 8.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.8 steals over the last six games.

Greene ranks first in the AAC this season in steals/game (1.81).

Memphis enters Thursday on a two-game winning streak but is just 5-7 away from home this season, and 4-6 in true road games. Four Tigers are averaging double digits in the scoring column, led by Jalen Duren (11.9).

Memphis is shooting 36% from downtown on the year (69th NCAA) and loves to crash the offensive glass (12.5/game). Defensively, the Tigers rank fifth in the NCAA in blocked shots/game (6.0).

Murphy scored a career-high 20 points in his first ever meeting with Memphis on December 29, 2020. The Tigers have two of the last three matchups in the series and two straight in Tampa.

The Bulls wrap up the regular season on Sunday, March 6 at Temple. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. Following the regular season finale, USF will head to Fort Worth, Texas for the American Championship.

We went to the game but left at halftime. Kind of late for us. Watched some of the 2nd half after we got home. But one observation.

After the first couple of minutes our guys rose to the challenge effort wise. They may have expended more energy in that game than I can remember all season. Memphis was so athletic - quickness and leaping were off the charts. But our guys seem to get quicker and jump higher as the game wore on.  There was one rebound that Chaplin got where he went over all their bigs. I was just amazed. Caleb Murphy handled the pressure as well as any one guard that I can recall being at USF (in my relatively limited time as a fan). Unfortunately he probably won't be back. Heard he's going to hook up with an agent and explore the NBA. If that doesn't work out (assuming he isn't draft pick worthy at this point) I'm guessing he goes into the portal. I hope Gregory, or whomever is coaching, can retain him.  This team has many flaws but effort last night wasn't one of them. I came away impressed.

Stated in a thread for the Cincy game.  They are getting better, improving.  And they should be. 

Murphy is not NBA-ready.  Hopefully he stays.  Chaplin played well.  Tchewa has been on a roll.  Walker showing flashes.

If the roster turns over again and annual free agency becomes the norm, I will might be done with USF Basketball after 45 years of fandom.
