What if...

What if we win the conference, go to a good bowl and win it, and then finish the season ranked.

And then expansion happens in the summer and we get in. And did somebody say MOSI is being remapped for football?

Wow. Talk about pigs flying!

BIG 12 composition (expansion) committee:
Gordon Gee-president WVU
Ken Starr-president Baylor University
David Boren--President University of Oklahoma

Texas--an important component in BIG 12 expansion.

----and look whose been meeting with the president of the University of Houston (which just happened to retain its football coach unlike many other successful G5 programs):

Dec. 1 with Gordon Gee

From October 17th--with president of the university of Texas

The American Conference should rebrand it self as the "Power 6 Conference"

Performance wise... We could do this...

However, we need better TV contracts and conference revenue before we declare ourselves a Power conference.

I agree.  I have no issues with the teams in this conference.  I really don't get all the excited about playing the teams in the Big 12.  You might say, Texas and Oklahoma?  My guess is those teams would have one foot out the door if we joined that conference.

The AAC would be hard to ignore if it could string together a few more seasons like this one.  Houston keeping their coach and even UCF getting Frost from under Syracuse's nose are important for this league.

If the teams get good and the coaches stay we would be a pretty good league year in and year out.

Problem is that a few will bolt when invited to any of the P5 conferences.. No way to keep this group together in the next round of expansion

Assuming there is a next round (in our life time)

We would too.  It is the problem.  We would struggle much like Rutgers and WVU in that kind of league.  I am not saying we wouldn't catch up but it will take years of beat downs to develop the depth and we could still get outbid on our coach.

I would say Pitt, Syracuse and Louisville are in the same boats as Rutgers and WVU but the ACC is pretty watered down.

Good point but you would assume that we are not done just yet. The next move might be the Texas/Oklahoma soap opera

The American is in a tough place. Yeah, it's good for scheduling but not for cash.

(1) ESPN is losing money and downsizing its expenditures, so they aren't about to roll out new numbers anytime soon.

(2) The current American TV contract pays nothing.

(3) There's no BCS, replaced by the possibility of the New Year Bowl, which isn't all that much.

We still have the Big East exit money for a while longer. But we need a P5 invite to really grow.

I will gladly take the punishment for the next few years..
