IMO, the Big 12 is fools gold.

That is, the moment any G5 teams join...it will be a temporary band aid much like UL, UC and USF joining the BigEast.  I can't see the two conference blue bloods wanting a long term relationship with the 'likes of us'.  The best thing for USF would be for the B12 to collapse after OU and UT join the P5 conference of their choice. Once that happens it will set off the final round of alignment we'll see a best of the Big12/ACC/AAC band together for what would be a respectable league with enough football and political influence to have a real access to the college football playoff system.

Do I need to point out the problem here with our football team?

We are hardly the first program to go in the tank after experiencing some success and we won't be a bottom dweller forever.

It doesn't need to be forever... It just needs to be at the wrong time...

Same could have applied to UCF who tanked even lower than USF in 2003....and they have done ok. Well that is if you are comfortable with denying kids water, multiple NCAA investigations and employing a guy like GOL as the defacto leader of your university.

Conversely, all the former bottom feeder programs that are now supposedly ahead of USF like Memphis, UCF, Houston, etc....could all easily have poor seasons as they all lost a lot to graduation or are breaking in new head coaches.  I think we both agree that USF needs to win this year.

We need to win for program viability.

My guess (just a guess) is when Big 12 expansion happens  the following will be the front runners in this order. Again just a guess.

1.Houston   - new Stadium, large market, and as a replacement for  Texas AM. A way to shut out SEC eyeballs as well. Would be easier to divide the conference into divisions as well (all texas schools in one division)

2. UCF/USF  (worried one but hoping both get the invite) ( makes sense to me to add both so Big 12 teams have a Florida Road game every season to tap into the FLa market).( Lots of potential due to size of both schools, which should result in more fans , donors ect.... over the shortest time frame) and FLA recruiting.

3, BYU /Boise  national brand's. (BYU needs to work out the Not playing on Sundays)  (Boise may be too far from some esp WVU)

4.Memphis /Cincy  .   Memphis geographically makes sense and has a lot of upswing and good BB.  Cincy is a solid program in BB and FB. Usually at the top of the conference in Football and has been for years, and they have good BB.

Even if we still sucked I'd rather pay to watch us lose to the likes of UT, OU, WVU, etc., than lose to ECU, Temple, UConn, etc. I think a lot of people would agree and that ticket sales would shoot up regardless of our W/L record.

That would be a much more entertaining loss.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
