This thread is hilarious.

For years, this board has been saying a UCF&USF package deal.

Now, everyone has accepted truth. USF will be left behind, because they made the right moves too late.

TCU did it right, and UCF has built a strong resume.

Expansion is not ONLY about football... so what else does UCF have?
It's about revenue and TV markets... and football is the biggest driver.

Typical of USF fans to down play success in a sport - in which they struggle.

Lmao.

So we're 57th and UCF is 56th in revenue. And as Brad posted we are 13th and 6 spots up in market.

And this is when one of us is as low as possible in football and the other is by far the highest it has been in football.

So this post made me laugh hysterically.

I just don't see either Florida team getting an invite to a p5 conference soon. One has to ask of oleary decides to become the permenant ad and the football team starts crashing would the p5 conference even want them anymore since they would add nothing in either mens or women's basketball. As far as the other sports no one would care since they are not sports conferences would even look at for expansion consideration. I think if the big 12 expands it would be either cincy and uconn or cincy and byu since they would offer the most in terms of overall athletic prestige

And one last thing for the UCF Is A Lock group. Coming off the best year in their history .... probably one of the best years in the history of the non-power programs in recent times ... not just going to, but winning, a BCS bowl over a real BCS conference winner ... they didn't sell out a game the following season, even with a national name coming with BYU ... and BYU wasn't even their highest "attendance" game. They needed fans from a school a half hour away to even get them close to "capacity". Those yokel writers don't bother looking at stuff like that but I'd think maybe an interested conference might...

I don't think the criteria that guided the last wave of expansion will guide the next.

For example, Rutgers, as ****** as they are as humans, still owned the NY/NJ TV market.  Pitt has a following and a history.  Louisville owned the town.

What's left is not much.

It's going to take supreme desperation to add any of the rest.  And when they do, TVs won't matter, neither will girls basketball or softball.  It will be a speculative bid on who could become something, and that may be too big a risk to take.  Either way, you better be competitive and you better have some fans.  TV doesn't matter if all you see are red empty seats, except when the Seminoles are in town.

Long, long way to go to be in the discussion.

Brad, if USF men's basketball can make it to the Dance and win games while in the Big East, USF will get into a P5! I know it will happen. I just don't know when. Miracles do happen to a place on Fowler Avenue!

GO BULLS!

TV is the only thing that matters.  Well, not really.  But very nearly.  Aren't Cincy and USF the biggest TV markets left unaccounted for?

Another factor working against USF, as far as butts in seats are concerned, is having the Bucs, Lightning, Rays, and Rowdies competing for our sports entertainment dollars.

We start winning, and there will be butts in seats and eyes glued to TV's. It'll be all about how much money our TV market can bring to a conference and potential. Much like it was when we got the Big East invite.

Instead of 6 groups of 11 teams, it would be far better to have 8 groups of 9 teams.

9 is the magic number for conferences - 4 home and 4 away, plus 3 or 4 OOC games, depending on an 11- or 12-game schedule. 1 game for a tuneup, and 2 or 3 games against traditional rivals (ND-USC, etc)

The 16-team playoff would consist of the 8 conference champs, plus 8 wildcards, all the first round games to be played on the conference champ's home field. After that, let the TV gurus decide where they play.

8 x 9 = 72 teams, which includes the current 64 + ND, BYU, and 6 more from the bubble teams. Under this scenario, we're very likely to be one of the "last 6 in"
