Don't think anyone cares and it's not relevant to recent B12 discussion which is real.

Real? What's real is the majority of the Big 12 like it the way it is. Or as real as all the other rumors in this thread about USF that never came true. So 400 pages, batting .000, whoosh.

Another Boren quote that should be paid attention to:

"There could be some slight loss of revenue from bowl games and other sources, but if the conference carefully selects additional members, based upon their media markets and fan base support, the amount should increase rather than decrease."   Link

If that is a prerequisite, USF fans that remain should settle into AAC exile.

The key is what is the criteria for 'fan base support"  ..... and if it's contributions, hopefulyy they put a ton more importance to tv markets. We are getting our ass kicked in the Contributions department.

So here is the scenario folks.... Boren said the same pie is not split 12 ways instead of 10... he said the pie gets bigger and everyone still gets the same amount.

This means TV networks will need to pay the same amount for new teams as they do for Kansas and Texas Tech... who do you think has the same appeal to a TV network?  Two large markets in Florida where more people watch the states top SEC and ACC teams?  A decent size market in Ohio where most people watch the team from the capital?  A very small market in New England?

The answer is no one... so that means TV networks will be overpaying for the new teams to allow the new amount per team to remain the same... and the only way to do that would be for the TV network(s) to have another motiviation.  When Fox first bid for the NFL in the 1990s, they really overpaid based on what NBC and CBS were offering.  The NFL was no dummy, they went with Fox --- and Fox considered it an investment in the future.

Fox wants to be more like ESPN... they need popular sports for Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2... so they can get more viewers and force cable providers to include them in the basic packages.

So if Fox REALLY wants to try to catch ESPN, they need to make an investment... and they can't do that with only a Western US conference... they need eastern teams... and they would need to do so before the current contracts expire, otherwise ESPN might be able to match them.  Fox could step up to the Big 12 and say they will pay another $50 million per year if the Big 12 adds two teams... but my guess that only works if they can get the Longhorn network shut down.

Just my two cents trying to read the tea leaves.

I just wonder how many other college sports boards have an enormous thread dedicated to grasping straws. We're in the conference we're in until we're not. And all that conference realignment happens behind closed doors and 400000 pages won't change it.

It took you 2 1/2 years to come up with that brilliant assessment of a thread like this?? You are right, though, in one regard. Doesn't matter how long this thread is it won't affect what does or doesn't happen in conference alignment ...... and I'm pretty sure no one who posted on it ever thought it would .... which immediately makes them smarter than someone thinking that starting a thread on here about a contrived rivalry trophy would magically make one appear.

It took two pages to come to it. And it keeps coming back like a bad rash. And I wouldn't be so sure about your presumption on what people think when they post on here and other Social Media outlets. The dreams of on campus stadiums, conference invites and high school recruit choices have been the subject of posts where the poster thinks that it will make some kind of difference. Some to the point of probable NCAA violations.

And who posted about a contrived rivalry trophy thinking that would make one appear? Sounds like someone isn't smart enough to tell when someone is gauging interest with the fan base before approaching administration.

I simply tried to bring some current reported events to the thread.  I have learned my lesson.  :roflmao:
