We reporters pressed Long more, because while he said at the outset that Ohio State was a "decisive" No. 4 and the co-champ factor had nothing to do with the Big 12 snub, nothing else he said seemed to match that. He kept referring to the fact that Ohio State's extra game against a quality opponent tipped the balance between the Buckeyes and Baylor, which finished No. 5. He kept remarking that the four teams that made the playoff won conference titles. So, the notion that the Big 12 couldn't present a champion had to hurt the Bears and Horned Frogs. It might not have been the only reason the Big 12 got left out, but it had to weigh heavily, otherwise Long wouldn't have brought up those factors the way he did.

Still wondering if Baylor had played a better team that last game if it may have gone different ... and I guess winning a conference title is different than being a conference champion?

Yes, I think the quality of the last opponent outweighed it being a championship game and I think that the Big XII thinks so too. But how do they schedule it so that occurs each year?

Baylor played #9 KSU.

which just shows to go you, how little any team not named TX or OU is valued by the world outside the B12.

Dang, didn't realize KSU was #9. Guess they didn't win by a large enough margin considering OSU *** stomped #13.... Still agree with Style that the new system is farce.

People seem to disregard that the committee was likely hesitant to put Ohio State in the top 4 the previous week considering that their starting QB went down with a season ending injury.  So, they were held back slightly and still neck and neck with TCU/Baylor.  Ohio State didn't just stomp a ranked Wisconsin team, they proved they were still good enough with their back up QB.

It's the simplest game in the world to schedule. Since each team in the conference already plays eachother, take the top 2 teams. No need for divisions like east and west.

Also on the Ohio State v B12 teams

Ohio State had a bad loss in week 2 against VaTech.  Baylor had an equally bad loss against WVU.  Both by 14 pts.

TCU didn't have a bad loss, but they had Baylor openly reminding everyone that they won head to head and were the B12 champions.  That more than anything probably muddled the playoff debate.  Had Baylor/B12 lobbied for TCU to make the playoffs I think they might have.  Instead Bowlsby sat on his hands and said, hey their both great and Baylor openly took out TCU by the legs.

Actually, I think the committee is praying that the B12 never gets a CCG so they don't ever have to make any real tough decisions ...

Baylor's OOC:

SMU

1AA

Buffalo

TCU's OOC:

1AA

SMU

Minnesota

Ohio State:

Nacy

VaTech

Kent State

Cincy

I'll give TCU props for playing Minnesota, but SMU was basically worse than most 1AA schools.  B12 does get some credit for playing an extra conference game, but Ohio State should get about equal credit for not playing a 1AA.

It's a close call.  I think it was really pretty tight between TCU and Ohio State.  Baylor pretty much blew it for their conference.  They didn't deserve the spot and kneecapped TCU.
