USF lost those fans with both Holtz and Taggart. To be honest, Leavitt started losing those crowds by all the second half season collapse. Tampa Bay is such a bandwagon town. Look at all our other sports in TB and you will understand the bandwagon effect this town has.  Beining in a non P5 conference is going to be tough for USF to get that crowd back. Too many other things to do in Tampa Bay than sit through and watch a struggling program in a non P5 league. What is the point when an undefeated non P5 will never have a chance at the 4 team playoff. College football has been ruined for a long time and I just dont see it getting better with the division of the P5 vs the G5. Congrats to UL as they got in and they deserved it as they have been great in both football and basketball.  No other school can really argue with that.

That point is being made this year, as Marshall will go 12-0 and isn't even ranked #25 or better. Colorado State has 1 loss and a better schedule and wins (CU and BC) than Marshall, and aren't getting any love, and neither is Boise State, quietly putting together a good season as well and handed Colorado State their only loss so far (a 3 pointer in week 2 I think).

USF could go 12-0 and have wins over Miami, FSU, and UF in their non conference schedule, and someone like UCF, Cincy, or ECU or Memphis could go 11-1, 10-2, and 9-3, and USF would still never sniff the top 4. The gate has been shut and locked, and the bluebloods are sitting on their perches with noses held high laughing at the fact anyone in the non P5 even plays football anymore...

I'm not even worried about the gate being shut and locked if we can't even win this conference. I just want to see USF win some conference championships for a good string of years.

Would be perfectly happy with a 10 year period of at least 7-8 bowl appearances, 5-6 bowl wins, and at least 3-4 conference championships. I don't think that's too high of an expectation. Oh, and some on-field play on both offense and defense that is fun to watch. It doesn't have to be 50+ points a game fun, just average say, 21-35 points and entertain the fans.

I think we should all stop worrying. If anything Boise St has shown the Blueprint for Non P5s to be part of the playoff conversation.  For a non P5 to have a shot at the one of the four playoff spots they would need multiple unbeaten years with wins over ranked P5 teams.  Until Boise St loss to Nevada one year they were pretty much in the conversation for the National Championship. It is a harder road than a P5 but there is still opportunity.

These teams haven't even played a confidence championship yet.

I wonder what happens if SEC West championsion loses SEC championship vs an east team regarding Bama and Miss St. Would the West champion then not go into the playoff, but the team that didn't have to play the championship game will, still being 1 loss?
