I was talking to someone who would know... he said taking UCF by themselves is pointless, and same with us.

When you send your women's tennis team (for example) to play in Orlando from Ames, Iowa (for example), and you have potentially another conference game you can play an hour away, it's a complete waste. There are simply too many synergies to be gained from non-football sports scheduling when it comes to the USF-UCF package.

In much the same way USF's last two years are not representative of permanence in USF's standing, the same goes to UCF. When we are both at our long run means however, we're pretty powerful together. From a business perspective.

I agree..

Anyone (particularly UCF fans) who think the execs only are looking at the past 2 seasons are completely clueless.

While UCF has been up and USF down, only as couple of years ago that it was the opposite

The execs can easily see what potential both teams have.

They can see what UCF can bring

They can also see what USF can bring when they (inevitably) right the ship.. with the 65k attendance games that they used to have.

They can also see the big media markets and travel arrangements for the non-revenue sports.

They can see the recruiting advantages it can bring.

They can also see the rivalry the 2 teams already have... which happen to be in the biggest media markets available.

Getting USF and UCF would be about saturating a market. It is a tactic used by business, see Starbucks. It seems ridiculous to have stores so close and literally across the block from one another, but it works.

What would big 12 rather have. Exposure in FL and Ohio, or twice the the exposure in FL and none in Ohio? FL is more populated, has many more visitors, and better recruiting. You double your TV exposure in a strong market. Does big 12 have more retired alums in Ohio or in FL?

Also makes travel plans easier.

Look at the expansion candidates as assets. If one share in Microsoft in 1990 is good, then two I twice as good. Or I already own microsoft, why should I own apple? Both have value.

It can be worthwhile to have two similar assets. Having one, USF or UCF, doesn't negate the value of the owning the second.

Is anyone utterly nervous?

The B12 commissioner was saying that they don't want to dilute their membership because they're all getting absurd payouts.

So what are they going to do if they make a move? I can't see them taking four schools, I just can't. Why would you go from one of the largest P5 payouts to one of the smallest?  The B12 GOR is already in place,

So what are they going to do? We're talking four schools here. UC has been a consistent winner, their only issue is that Nippert is not easily expandable to the 60k that the Big 12 would be hoping for (and that can be offset by holding bigger games at Paul Brown). They've built a quality program at this point. ECU? They've been banging on doors for years and have done nothing but win a lot of football games and win the attendance battle. ECU is a large university (26k) with they've consistently sold out their stadium, especially in recent years and have built up quite the fan base. They also have a quite exciting form of football that would tailor well to TV ratings. I don't think we need to say anymore about what UCF has done. What do we have? Great facilities, sure. the Sun Dome is beautiful and Raymond James still works as a big game venue, though perhaps it's not quite as good in promoting the college football experience (and let's not forget-it's not OURs). Our football attendance is down and the jury is currently out on basketball with a new coach. We don't make the Big 12 money unless UCF is nice enough to ask for us to come along with them.

Let's get real. If these rumors are true they might reach out to four schools but most likely they will pick two. And the two will be Cincy and UCF. If it's all four I will be stunned.I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but that's the reality right now.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but that's the reality  your opinion right now.

It's my opinion that we're pulling in 18k a game and the other three schools are doing far better in attendance? Interesting theory.

No, this part "And the two will be Cincy and UCF"

Even in this season, USF is further away from climbing into the AAC.

If USF (over other candidates) can show that they are able to bring in marketing dollars...

Then the BIG12 would want us in the conference. We need control over the Tampa Bay market.

The only way that has even a slim chance of happening is for us to be in a P5 ... but if that's the criteria for getting IN to a P5 .... well, you do the math.

Trip, I tend to disagree with you on this one. Winning WILL control the Tampa Bay market. If the BULLS could consistently be a 10 win team, conference champion, and major bowl champion, we would be in control.

I also don't see that trend happening for four or five years, if ever.

So, the bottom line, in my opinion (and everybody has one), is that we have a five year window to audition for a P5 invite. That's also why the thread on Taggart/Harbaugh and new teams concern me.

1st year that USF wins 10 games, Taggart is probably gone, one of the disadvantages of being out of the P5...

I can't blame the guy, any P5 would double his salary if he wins here

I think that was the reality in the Big East, too.  If you win the conference title, you lose your coach to a better program.  Except for Leavitt--if he had got us to a conference title, he would have stayed IMO.

Maybe we have two different interpretations of "control the Tampa Bay market". To me it means becoming the #1 college football team in the area and I just don't see that happening as long as we're in tha AAC, no matter how we do, unless something catastrophic happens to UF and FSU.

Big 12 wants to be in FL badly. Whether that's FSU/Miami, or USF/UCF will not stop them from getting in here.

I don't see the Division 64.

I see the every P5 conference being at 14 teams at some point. 70 total programs.

big 12 is never getting FSU/Miami

They better settle for ... *cough another Florida school

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
