Who is this going to effect? Not UF. Not UGA. Not UT. Not LSU. Not ALA.

http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/94854/debating-the-secs-future-schedule-model

Good article about the SEC and their schedule and tactics.

I've said it for a long time and this is nothing new. Their scheduling is not much different than many other conferences. They lack the ninth game but up until recently, only the Pac 12 dared to take on that sort of regiment, and even that is only since 2005 when everyone went to a 12 game schedule. The SEC surely pumped its chest about its shiny new format, but other than a certain few programs in certain years, most SEC programs already play what they're all saying is going to happen in the future: 8 conference games and a game against a P5 team (or AQ, as I would still count games against many AAC and select Mountain West teams competitive and quality opponents).

Teams like Alabama and Florida won't have to change their scheduling at all. They can still play their GA Southerns and Chattanoogas in November before their big "rivalry" game, and hand pick two sacrifices from the SunBelt or CUSA. UF will still play FSU as its token OOC game, and won't have to worry about leaving the state for an OOC game (unless it's a neutral game at JerryWorld or a bowl game), and Bama can still take advantage of scheduling a mediocre ACC or Big Ten team in Week 1 (where they can win on sheer talent).

I agree, there have been some great programs in the SEC over the years, but the league as a whole has been pedestal'ed by the media and others because they have figured out how to game the system and use SEC circular logic to make themselves look better than they are:

1. Scheduling OOC games they can win and often do. Even a Mississippi or Arkansas losing to Jacksonville State or UL-Lafayette won't dent the overall reputation when UGA and SC are beating their AAC rivals, and Kentucky or Tennessee gets a chance win against a Cincinnati or Louisville or a Memphis or a Wake Forest or something. People see win over [AAC, ACC, Big Ten] but don't realize Kentucky wasn't beating up Ohio State or even Michigan, they're just seeing a win over a conference and assuming it's worthy of a "this conference is strong" commentary.

2. Play 8 games against each other. As noted in the article, the lack of a 9th game prevents some 6-6 teams from being 5-7 because they have a nice FCS or UAB to beat up on instead of an additional conference game. Everyone gets a (or at least a shot at) an extra win. 8-4 is 9-3, so on and so forth. Perhaps in years past, Alabama is 11-1 instead of 12-0 if it were to play one more game against say, a strong UF or USC team that may not have been in their cross-divisional rotation that year.

3. Excellent work (and luck) in bowl games. I will give credit to the top 4-5 teams as they are usually fairly superior to their matchups. Granted, there are many facets of having time off to prepare for a game a month away. Many of the other bowls are against inferior teams talent-wise, so their records can often be deceived that way, but they don't always have the best bowl records.

In short, **** the SEC, they have some great teams, but there will be nothing new for many of the teams as their "new" scheduling format is essentially more of the same. I'm highly disapointed they didn't at least mandate no more FCS games (as the Big Ten has adopted in the future - currently scheduled FCS games will play out but no future scheduling of them is allowed supposedly). I'd love for the AAC to mandate no FCS games.

IMO, this is just the SEC trying to get some positive pub for doing something they already do. It's a pre-emptive "inoculation" against criticism for not having a 9-game conference schedule. Lots of fire and noise, but signifies nothing.

Yep. I think the AAC should pass a rule that says every team has to play a minimum of 12 games during the regular season. That'll show everyone we're a legit conference.

All expansions have been done quietly so far and its a 50/50 shot the big 12 will obtain some combo of Miami, gt, fsu, vt, and clemson if they can increase tv money substantially vs anyone in our conference.

I would love that. It would open the door for us to enter the ACC, which would be our dream conference travel-wise.

Not happening with the ACC grant or rights.....least not for 12 years as far as the ACC goes.  Best chance for USF is if they start to come back around in fball in become competitive in hoops and then maybe the BIG 12 invite.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
