It will take some time for the Big 12 to consider expanding...say four to five years.

Formula? What formula? It's a committee picking participating teams out.

If you think an 11-1 Texas or Oklahoma or even Oklahoma State would be left out of the discussion or playoff merely because try didn't play in a conference championship game, you're nuts.

I don't know what the Big 12 plans to do. They will probably eventually expand, but that decision will be based solely on money, and what makes them the most, not because of this new playoff.

Gone after this season is the BCS' formula, but the criteria by which the selection committee will make its decision – and the tools it might use as aids – remain fluid. The factors the committee is expected to be charged with weighing include: head-to-head competition, comparable opponents, conference championships and how key injuries might have affected a team's performance.

Remember the hubbub last year over whether the four-team playoff field should be limited solely to teams that win their conference? The commissioners ultimately nixed that idea, but came up with a list of five principles the committee will use to "distinguish among otherwise comparable teams." That list includes conference championships, strength of schedule, head-to-head competition, comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory) and "other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team's performance during the season or likely would affect its postseason performance."

---

Each P5 conference will have at least 1 AD present in the committee. I would almost bet a lot of money that the other conferences will NOT give the B12 a free ride to the playoffs ...which includes the additional TV time, $$$, and reputation (including the chance of winning it all.)

They made sure to also include that teams who didn't win the conference can be voted in. Provides lots of leverage against the B12.

It says conference championships...NOT conference championships via a conference championship games...

Rumours have UT, OU, OSU and TTU headed to the Pac 12. ESPN buys out LHN and B12 GOR is null and void because 40% of B12 conf teams leaving. Wow. Not sure if B12 survives a hit like that.

The rumors are coming because of Texas hiring Arizona St AD who was in the PAC 12. Not sure why as he was only at ASU for like a year.

  1. If #UT, #Sooners, #OKState & #TexasTech jumped west to create #Pac16 it helps the new conference TV network create huge revenue.

  2. @GSwaim @ExpansionRumors UT & OU in B1G will bring BtN to more than 100 M viewers. More than FOX and on par with ESPN (the old sec network)

  3. @Iamgrizzly1974 @ExpansionRumors Not only that, but Texas recruiting...there are so many reason the #Pac12 covets.

  4. .@GSwaim @Iamgrizzly1974 PAC covets #Texas, but I think Horns favor East, #ACC or #B1G. Didn't Texas nix previous PAC grab for that reason.

  5. @GSwaim @Iamgrizzly1974 @ExpansionRumors Dodds stepping down and Patterson stepping up may have changed the equation radically.

  6. @GSwaim @Iamgrizzly1974 @ExpansionRumors Meaning Patterson is going to put his stamp on things and may not follow Dodds' recommendations.

UT has to be sick at the attention A&M has garnered since it bolted the Big12.

I expect something grand out of Austin. . . . . Most likely a jaw-dropping hire to replace Mack Brown, but I doubt they join the Pac12.

I think that's mainly there becuase of lobbying by the self proclaimed God's gift to college football, SEC ... and it's total bull****. If you've only got 4 teams playing for the MNC, you don't exclude the champions of 2 of the top 5 conferences, no matter how they became champion.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
