@ChrsLambertMSNN they don't believe me either. they just want it to happen so bad, but there's no reason for big 12 to add any of those

As if McMurphy knows anything about expansion. He probably knows as much as TheDude, or TuxedoYoda (minus the constant wild speculation posts)

FACT.. NO ONE knows what is going to happen.  Only speculation/guesses.

MY OPINION.. is that now that the CCG appeal for the B12 has been struck down, the B12 will need to react.  No way are the other conferences going to allow themselves to be "penalized" for having a CCG (by having the favored/higher ranked team possibly lose that game,) while the B12 just skates by.

As mentioned in a previous post, I highly suspect a 1 loss team (even a 2 loss team if the 2nd loss is the CCG) to be voted over an undefeated B12 by the voting committee.  And definitely over a 1-loss B12 team

Won't Big12 expansion mean $2.6 million less per member school? Why would they do that?

Because Fox and/or ESPN would add $$$ to at least partially make up the difference if not entirely.

They would do that if the lack of a CCG keeps them out of the four team playoff, which appears to be more and more likely.  Really, it would be kind of funny if the AAC had a better chance to get their champion into the four team playoff than the Big 12.  But the Big 12 would expand before they let that happen.

This is the playoff payout. If they add teams, they make about what the other P5 teams make, there wouldn't be a make up, at least that what it seems from this article.

1. So Texas and Oklahoma will be happy making money, but never having a chance to play in the championship playoffs.  Do you really think that they don't want to be in the CCG?  Not to mention all the money they will miss out on by not being in the playoffs.  That will be a lot more than $2mil.

2.  If the Big 12 adds teams and a CCG, there will be more money to offset the new teams.  They will not lose $2mil/year.

The reality is that the decision of the Big 12 not to expand was about DeLoss Dodds not wanting to risk a loss in the CCG that would bump them from the four team playoff.  That is why the other four conferences are pushing to make the CCG a big part of the forumula, to punish the Big 12 for not having a CCG.  That is why the Big 12 will add at least two teams.  It's a no brainer.

The BM didn't really shoot down the idea of the B12 expanding to get to a CCG ...

Formula? What formula? It's a committee picking participating teams out.

If you think an 11-1 Texas or Oklahoma or even Oklahoma State would be left out of the discussion or playoff merely because try didn't play in a conference championship game, you're nuts.

I don't know what the Big 12 plans to do. They will probably eventually expand, but that decision will be based solely on money, and what makes them the most, not because of this new playoff.

I doubt anyone really knows, but McMurphy has been broken stories in the past with expansion. If trust him over the WVU poo-slingers

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2013/10/04/college-football-playoff-selection-committee-members-set-archie-manning-condi-rice/2924187/

Gone after this season is the BCS' formula, but the criteria by which the selection committee will make its decision – and the tools it might use as aids – remain fluid. The factors the committee is expected to be charged with weighing include: head-to-head competition, comparable opponents, conference championships and how key injuries might have affected a team's performance.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20131016/college-football-playoff-selection-committee/

Remember the hubbub last year over whether the four-team playoff field should be limited solely to teams that win their conference? The commissioners ultimately nixed that idea, but came up with a list of five principles the committee will use to "distinguish among otherwise comparable teams." That list includes conference championships, strength of schedule, head-to-head competition, comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory) and "other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team's performance during the season or likely would affect its postseason performance."

---

Each P5 conference will have at least 1 AD present in the committee.  I would almost bet a lot of money that the other conferences will NOT give the B12 a free ride to the playoffs  ...which includes the additional TV time, $$$, and reputation (including the chance of winning it all.)

They made sure to also include that teams who didn't win the conference can be voted in.  Provides lots of leverage against the B12.
