i just dont see it.

if USF got called up by the ACC/B12 at the end of last year i would consider it a massive success just to maintain that 7-6 record this season. it takes multiple recruiting classes for a G5 school to fill out its roster with P4 talent.

it would be a shocker if USF, in its first year back in a Power conference, won 10 games (80% of their schedule).

yeah i get it. unfortunate timing for USF’s aspirations of a momentum-building season.

but it doesnt really matter where UM is ranked, games against them will always be tough because of talent/depth disparity & the natural competitiveness of in-state games.

if UM were 2-1 coming into this game & completely out of the Top 25 we still probably wouldnt have been better than +10 dogs & would have needed a near perfect game to even cover the spread.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you but there's no such thing as an auto-bid and all conferences are in the same position as the AAC champion ...

I think the term "auto bid" is used interchangeably with the design layout of each P4 conference champion in the playoffs, and the "highest ranked conference champion" from the G5 (which would include PACx). It's just a question of vocabulary. 

ACC/B1G/SEC/BigXII - will all have one single, solitary conference champion - regardless of overall ranking out of 133 teams - represented in the playoffs.

The PACx/MAC/AAC/CUSA/Sun Belt/Mountain West conference champion - which is ranked higher than any other conference champion from this collection - will be included in the playoffs, while the remainder of the twelve-team bracket will consist of highest ranked teams. So yes, it is a true statement that

in that their champion COULD be in the playoffs. Do I think an additional G5 team conference champion is going to be in the playoff by virtue of being higher ranked than any other P4 team? No.  I think the term "auto bid" is a euphemism for P4-inclusion.

No Conf has an autobid.  Not the SEC, B12, or SunBelt.
