Doesn't seem related to anything. USF posts these kinds of things every once in a while. But who knows?

I am completely biased as the parent of alums and current freshman, but I am in awe of the accomplishments that USF has made and truly believe our destiny is tied to bigger and greater things than what our current discussion is centered around.

Would be very shocking to see USF join a Western conference considering in USF's 27 seasons, I believe the team has only played 6 games out West.  (Utah, BYU, San Diego State, San Jose State, Nevada & The Sun Bowl).

I’m saying for the 2 teams from the AAC, their travel costs are worse, they only have 1 eastern partner instead of 2. The media package won’t be as good with only 1 or 2, and not all 3 AAC teams.

The PAC-12 leftovers aren’t worth much, neither are the MWC teams. They are mostly have tiny student and alumni fan bases.

Oregon State is the only one with a student body over 30k having only 33k students. Most are 15-25k students.

Tulane and Memphis combined are 36,000 students. (14k Tulane, 22k Memphis)

USF by comparison is 48,000 students!

USF is far and away the most valuable brand with the largest fanbase between the AAC and the PAC-12.

And I’m not saying the PAC is worse by adding 1 or 2 AAC teams, I’m saying that being in the PAC, ends up being worse than being in the AAC  for the teams that leave the AAC.

That’s a very USF-centric perspective. If I’m Memphis or Tulane, travel isn’t as big of issue based on their locations, neither are in the EST time zone, and USF has their own plans (which likely don’t include either school) to move a bigger conference. If the media deal is even marginally better, I’m leaving because I also know my next AAC deal won’t be as good as the last one.

If I am the PAC sure I’d like USF in my conference as it effectively destroys the AAC but it’s also another 75 minutes away in the EST. Since the PAC would be the top G5 conference with the additions of Memphis and Tulane, perhaps they don’t really need to add USF. And since USF would still presumably be trying to leave the AAC, the AAC would still get destroyed in due time, cementing the PAC as a P4 1/2.

I’m afraid we are playing with a weak hand in the current situation, mainly because of geography. If the aforementioned teams go, I think USF has to go. Sometimes you have to take the job you don’t love to get the one you do.

I'm not that hung up on the travel.  For football, only 3 trips per year to pacific and mountain time zones.  For Olympic sports, I'm sure they can work out for USF to have 2 trips to pacific time playing 2-3 teams each trip and 2 trips to mountain time playing 2-3 teams each trip.  I really believe the travel won't be that much more expensive than now, just more time on the road away from class.  If Memphis and Tulane go, we should jump on it if we're also invited.

I agree with this.  If I look at how things were back when I toured in high school compared to now, they have really done an amazing job.

But what if the money is just as bad?

As someone said before, if those teams leave, the AAC contract renewal will not be worth what it is now.  So it may be better from a future perspective.  That being said, playing all west coast teams would not be the ideal situation for us as fans.  😞

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
