The problem here is this for Memphis, Tulane, and USF

If only 1 or 2 leave the AAC,

for those who go to PAC, they have to play in the west time zones, and don’t bring the value of all 3. Ends up being worse than the AAC.

for those who stay in the AAC, the level of competition declines somewhat, overall conference is weakened.

The only possible win happens when all 3 are kept together. Splitting the 3 up between PAC and AAC ends up being worse for all 3.

Nobody wants to take the risk of the fragmented outcome whether they are the ones that go to the PAC or stay in the AAC.

I think considering the travel, and unknown media deal, and potential GOR lock in. The best move for USF, Tulane, and Memphis is to stay put in the AAC.

I don’t know if it’s legal or not for the 3 to confer with each other on the matter, but it certainly might be considered a conflict of interest, so they probably aren’t talking with each other.

I think they all recognize the dilemma. The only way to solve it may be for some public comments to hint to each other on the best move together.

There is some game theory involved and this scenario would make a great psychological behavioral study. It’s similar to the prisoners dilemma but not exactly.

So you're saying we're in a Prisoner's Dilemma. Yep, feels that way.

This is worse than when the Big East fell apart. I stopped watching cfb for several years after that. I just wanted to watch some football, but came back just in time to relive the hell that is this thread.

Even if 2 of 3 go to the PAC-12, it still ends up worse, you only have 1 eastern partner instead of 2, and you end up with a less competitive PAC-12 and unknown media package.

How does the PAC end up worse when they would have 2 of the 3 top AAC teams + 2 former P5 + best of the MWC?

I’m saying for the 2 teams from the AAC, their travel costs are worse, they only have 1 eastern partner instead of 2. The media package won’t be as good with only 1 or 2, and not all 3 AAC teams.

The PAC-12 leftovers aren’t worth much, neither are the MWC teams. They are mostly have tiny student and alumni fan bases.

Oregon State is the only one with a student body over 30k having only 33k students. Most are 15-25k students.

Tulane and Memphis combined are 36,000 students. (14k Tulane, 22k Memphis)

USF by comparison is 48,000 students!

USF is far and away the most valuable brand with the largest fanbase between the AAC and the PAC-12.

And I’m not saying the PAC is worse by adding 1 or 2 AAC teams, I’m saying that being in the PAC, ends up being worse than being in the AAC  for the teams that leave the AAC.

If you learn to enjoy pain and unending disappointment, it starts to make everything numb due to the frequency.  If that helps.

The goal is to win and get out the aac to a power conference.  I  think a possible 12 or 14 team pac would be an upgrade for football, but the tv contract, gor, and travel cost won't be worth it. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. Now If the cfpc acknowledged to be a power conference and paid like one so then yes obviously,  but it wont.

Pac12/14

West

Cstate

Fresno

Boise

Wazzaou

Oregon State

Unless

Nevada ( state laws)

Central/east

Memphis

Tulane

Utsa

Usf

I would add Liberty

Then two more teams like ecu or uconn.

I just don't think juice is worth the squeeze for slightly better football. Golesh has been telling recruits we are going to a power conference and dear God I hope that is true.

Did we beat any top 10 teams or ranked blue bloods? Can't have a better future without results.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
