This is not a criticism of Kelly but he doesn't know when "the next major realignment" happens, no one does.

My guess is in the last week he has been on the phone with Tulane, Memphis, UTSA,.. and PAC to see what our options are.

If believe if Tulane and Memphis move on to the PAC, we will try as well

I probably should have phrased that better. All about TV deals for the bigger conferences.

The GOR could be a huge sticking point for the PAC. Is that on our best interest? I have seen that opinions here have varied on that.

Depends on the GOR language regarding the duration and buyout along with how much money PAC teams will get.

If FSU and Clemson make peace with the ACC our most realistic chance of going to a better conference is pretty much dead.

We have aggressive OOC scheduling to bolster our SOS

I would prefer we don't sign a GOR with a west coast conference

The hypothetical weakened AAC plus our OOC is fine, we'll dominate the conference

The team got in at 3am from Hattiesburg and Loosa. Cross coast travel takes a toll.

That's only 1 timezone away too. Imagine having to adjust (or manage) a 3 timezone difference.

If we are in an even more weakened AAC, recruiting will suffer, and do we really believe we can consistently win against  Power 4 teams?

In the new PAC we wouldnt have to rely on winning against the top teams in the country since on a weekly basis we would be playing Memphis, San Diego State, OSU, Boise State, Tulane

We could go undefeated against Charlotte, North Texas, Rice,... and it wouldn't even make a dent  when it comes to playoffs, while the new Pac would almost automatically get the playoff spot

USF should be in the business of upgrading conferences not downgrading like we've been for last decade or so. If Memphis and Tulane leave we need to as well.

USF cant just sit on their hands and wait for this fictional ACC invite with who knows whos left in the conference.

Out of curiosity to see what Tulane fans are thinking  I went on their board to read comments. Tons of mentions of USF by the way. Very good board, although ours looks much better. Kudos to the USF board administrators.

One Tulane fan said it best

If you're stranded in the ocean, do you get on the first boat that comes by or do you wait until a luxury cruise ship is there to rescue you?"

I am impatient and weary of the rejection we have faced by the B12.  The ACC is a mess and when reading the room, they don't desire to have us as members.  As we are growing our brand, we can't afford to be timid and bring in lower level competition that staying in the AAC  might force.   I'm undecided as to what I want to have happen.

The biggest (really, the only positive) payoff I see for USF pursuing a PAC membership is the media exposure. Even if there is a 5-6 year GoR, the media exposure of USF in the news might be worth it. It's not a better conference now. It wont be unless they also get Memphis/Tulane/USF, and the money and travel will be horrendous for the student athletes and alumni, and both conferences have the same access to the CFP, nobody has a "leg up" there. But, what is the value of the media including USF in a new conference? I'm not talking about TV rights/contracts, I'm talking about ESPN talking about USF. We have Boise at home on the schedule next year - is there any chance that some sort of "move" will ignite people to say "this future conference game may be cool" and we draw 50k+ to that game? If so, it MIGHT be worth it. I think there's a small chance that the Boise game will draw significantly different from what we average next year.

If it will get more people talking about USF, then that's a huge positive. If it forces other conferences hands to give us a bit more attention than they are currently, that's obviously a point of leverage we should explore.

Crazy how things can change when programs start losing.

Or when they start winning (see USF football 2024). 🙂🤘

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
