Don’t expect new AAC commissioner Tim Pernetti to not be proactive. According to those with knowledge of his thinking, Pernetti is interested in pursuing Mountain West programs, such as Air Force. Pernetti already has Army and Navy in his conference. Air Force is a sensible and attractive addition, and the AAC could offer more in distribution than the Mountain West, which is at about $5-6 million.

I didn't see that paragraph earlier.

Here I was worried we would be left stranded, without a plan and holding the bag again. Maybe we can become the university of Florida national guard, what a time to be alive!

We might be better off independent at this rate.

My thoughts on USF and the PAC...

Consider this ... the AAC has a better media deal than the MWC. The four MWC teams moving to the PAC will have to pay $10M in exit fees (no GOR since the TV deal expires the year they are departing).  The PAC 2 have to pay $17 million each for poaching the MWC because of the scheduling agreement they reached for 2024.  The PAC will pay most of that out of the $245M war chest they have from the exiting teams.

Now, we know Apple was offering the Pac 10 aorund $15-20M per year before the conference fell apart.  This new conference will not get that much money.  Maybe $10M per year per team.  Memphis, Tuilane, and USF get around $8M per year.  The $2M more would not be worth the sacrifice of playing games on the left coast for any of the eastern AAC teams.

However, if this PAC can get $15-$20M... USF should accept an invite.  It would be a short term deal - doubling the revenue for five-six years would be worth it.

The PAC has probably been baking this for a while behind closed doors.

There could be a media partner that has expressed interest/showed optimism toward a higher value contract with xyz xyz AAC schools (incl. markets like San Antonio, Tampa, NOLA, Memphis) + their core 6. This media partner could be theoretically interested, but not committed. They've stopped at 6 and need to gauge if this hypothetical payout is enough to make some combination of the AAC schools jump.

I dont know if this new PAC can get $15M/year. If they can, this isnt much of a decision to make, you take Memphis/Tulane/us and buddy system over to the PAC

While it is not a particularly exciting conference, it would by far be the best G5 conference and could garner a decent media deal. I think an altered ACC would be better, but this would also give the PAC some expansion space IF the ACC did explode to pick up some leftovers like CalFord, BC, WF, Syracuse, SMU and NC St. At that point, for Olympics sports travel, there would be enough in the east and west division to limit travel and costs.

PAC Football

Air Force              Army

Boise St               UCONN/EastCarolina

Colorado St         Memphis

Fresno St             Navy

Oregon St            Rice

San Diego St       South Florida

Utah St                 Temple

Wash St                Tulane

I’d take the ACC left overs any day over the big12 or pac-12.

The PAC6 and AAC will merge to form the PAAC20. It can be called the Pacific Atlantic American Conference 20 or the partial a** American conference.  Either way committee will still select undefeated cusa liberty over the winner.
