I think this is a seriously undervalued point. I wouldn’t say the ACC is elite in this scenario, but we also identify the Big12 as “wide” not “deep”; there is no powerhouse brand of football single-handedly raising the profile of the B12, they just happen to have many very good and interesting football teams. This would be exactly the ACC assuming only a partial collapse. 

Both conferences would have many, very interesting teams, but entirely lack an equivalent Ohio State or Alabama brand within it. Add in the academic affiliations and realize that the country’s best schools from Cal, Stanford, Tulane, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Duke all the way to newest AAU guys like Miami and USF, and the ACC is objectively stronger than the truckstop conference.

Of course, all that matters in this context is sports, specifically football, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this unfolds, but USF will be one of the first additions when it’s time
