Nick Saban was on game day this morning, already drinking the Kool-Aid and saying how great the portal and the new playoffs are.  I said something along the lines of with the portal that it's going to allow the teams at the top to create better depth and make things more interesting for the fans.

I think the idea of the B12 separating football and basketball contracts is super interesting. I do see a road where that provides much better overall value for a conference, especially as basketball rights are skyrocketing now. Why should a school like UConn be held to the same "football" standard as, say, Oklahoma St? UConn is essentially the Florida St., Clemson, or Georgia of basketball, not considered a "blue blood" but has the championship pedigree to compete with any team in the nation in any given year - essentially a "new age blue blood". If basketball contracts continue to skyrocket - it only makes sense to seek them on the market separate from football. I can only see that as a positive for the B12, a conference with "ok" football relative to the market, but above average basketball.  Would not surprise me if the ACC looked at something similar. Yormack looking at TNT being shut out by Amazon and licking his chops knowing there's a few hundred million dollars per year allocated to basketball that just became available...

Totally agree. I think the last two "brands" out there with a football program are UConn and, to a little lesser degree, Memphis. If the Big XII wanted to add value in both, Memphis should have been a no brainer ..... they still could be involved but just have better media security.

Honestly, though, you'd think that if the Huskies thought they had any shot at the ACC they wouldn't at least be giving the impression of rolling over for the Cowboy Conference ..... not really sure what, if anything, this means for USF.

Basically that is probably one of the main drivers for him retiring lol.

Yeah, we always say that crapola about wanting "an even playing field, fairness, blah-blah-blah". What we really want is the advantage. Whether we want to be taller, stronger, faster or meaner on an individual level, or whether we want a more subtle, but very real, 'corporate' advantage. Now, pay-to-play is all above board. We all know with a wink-and-a-nod that payola existed long before the NIL fig leaf. And I'd be hard pressed to think there were not some 'bama fingerprints on that brown paper bag.  So, having been an institution with exceptional advantage for quite some time, why continue to do the heavy lifting if everyone else also gets the assist that was exclusive to you in the past? C'mon man, still want to put in those hours when you're seventy-two years old?

I think it's just going to be a matter of time before the 'novelty' of a G5 in the playoffs wears thin. Eventually, the heavy hitters are going to question why they have to knock themselves out week after week, and this team of questionable pedigree and degree of schedule difficulty should get some sort of set-aside access? That trench isn't getting dug and bordered with razor wire for no good reason. "Fair" is very subjective.

He keeps talking up that propaganda on College Game Day.  Talking about former Alabama players on FSU.  SEC not even playing today.

That being said, yes I would actually prefer more parity.  It keep hearing people tell me that I actually don't.  But yes, I really do.  The sport is lame at the moment.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
