Clemson, along with Florida State, is suing the ACC over the conference’s media deal. In particular, it’s Grant of Rights, which locks schools into the media deal and makes it difficult to leave the conference financially.

“I’ll kind of pass on the legal sequencing of that, only to say that we’re going to continue to have our legal team work the legal process with it, act incredibly professional, be great members of the conference we’re in, and be really well read and connected nationally with all of the moving parts. However, those continue to show themselves. It has never been more active just with the national landscape of all the moving parts within college athletics. A lot of what I’ve talked about, not just specifically conference membership,” Neff said.

Court-ordered mediation is standard practice in Florida civil cases. The timing of the mediation is based upon discovery timelines and anticipated/available trial dates. And the parties can settle at any time before or after the formal mediation takes place. 

I understand, but I don't think there has been much discovery other than a battle over getting the actual documents from the Secret Vault of Sacredness.

In July, football scholarships for FBS schools increased to 105 as per team the House vs. NCAA settlement. What will that do for Group of Five teams.

The majority of those extra free rides will be saved for transfers. And after filling the openings from the normal attrition — graduates and transfers — these schools will start raiding Boise State, UTSA, Memphis and, yes, FAU and USF.

And the best players at all those Group of Five schools will have a difficult time turning down an offer to play in the SEC or Big Ten in front of 100,000 passionate fans on network television every week, even if it means not starting every game.

"We've got that cavernous gap that is continuing to grow and now you say for one year to all of these schools that have $10-, $15-, $20-million collectives, 'You get 20 extra scholarships?' " said Herman, whose team opens the season Aug. 31 at Michigan State. "The Alabamas, the Floridas of the world, they're not going to sign high school players with those 20 extra scholarships.

"This very first year … your 20 best players are going to get bought by these schools that now have more room on their roster to pay players."
