I think Houston and Cincinnati are mistakes that the Big 12 wishes they could undo. 

I did think of mentioning TCU and they should be considered a success story in realignment as well.

But this could be great news for us! The Big 12 plays a 9-game conference schedule. But you can't play an odd number of games while having an odd number of teams. So, they'll have to add an 18th team. I think we're in. Who are they going to add otherwise? Memphis?

Splain this to me please.  Why do you have to have an even number of teams to play a 9 game conference schedule?

The math doesn’t math to have an odd number of teams playing an odd number of games. To fill 9 conference games for 17 teams, you need 76.5 team pairs. Can’t play a football game with just one team. With 18 teams, you need 81 team pairs, so the math works.

 

 If they were to go to 8 or 10 conference games, then they don’t need an 18th team, however.

My guess is that since the mediation was just court mandated, they won't come to any sort of settlement and head to trial. Then whatever the courts decide will end up being sent higher since Clemson and FSU will keep arguing they have a right to trial in SC and FL respectively while the ACC will argue it has to be in NC.
