Given the huge cost of doing business, I still believe the most likely outcome is a full merger. Are San Diego State, Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State and UNLV really going to pay $17 million to leave the MW so it could play with Oregon State and Washington State in a watered-down Pac-2 that does have Autonomous 5 status? That doesn't make sense since there would be no major TV pot of gold on the other end.

Outgoing Washington State president Kirk Schulz told Canzano early 2025 is a likely target for making a decision on what the Pac-2 will do for the next half-decade, so the Beavers and Cougars have less than a year to figure things out if that timeline holds. That also gives MW schools that are potentially under consideration for the new Pac-12 a year to make their athletic departments as attractive as possible to Oregon State and Washington State.

By far the strangest thing about all of this realignment phase.

Kyle Whittingham has been a witness to many changes in college football during his three decades in Salt Lake City. From the Utes being at the top of the Mounta

Whittingham's comments come at a time when the college football world is already seeing unprecedented levels of conference realignment. Schools are moving between conferences in search of better financial opportunities, enhanced visibility, and stronger competition. This trend, according to Whittingham, is just the beginning. He foresees a future where the strongest programs will consolidate into two major leagues, effectively reshaping the sport's competitive landscape.

I've had a number of my dirt road relations graduate from NCSU. On the plus side, it's but a three-hour drive from the dorm to your house, so she'll never want for freshly washed clothes.  Are we diving into the NCSU experience at full tilt, pursuing a degree from the Wilson College of Textiles or the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences? I had a cousin graduate from there who, I ain't making this up, spent a career in textiles. Know what he did? He traveled the globe for some manufacturer, and his job was quality control on the tags in the back of shirts. Serious. The one thing he's responsible for is the one thing I took scissors to at the first opportunity.

The SEC and Big Ten are keeping quiet about further expansion because of possible lawsuits, but that doesn't mean Fox isn't interested in expanding into Florida.

That leaves Florida, with its (roughly) 7 million TV homes.

Those homes currently pay out-of-market subscriber fees for the Big Ten Network because the conference doesn’t have a campus in the Sunshine State.

If they were charged in-market monthly rates, which are typically double or triple the out-of-market fees, well … jackpot!

Yeah, I worked at Nielsen Media Research (Audience Data Warehouse) or five years, as did (or still does?) our good friend @MaltLiquorBull.  My point being that when we start putting things on the scale, national name recognition might play more of a part than DMA placement. That complex decision-making process...

Yep. If you’ve seen “office space,” then you know what @WoolyBully and I had to deal with for years.

I am not certain Kyle's prediction is overly 'bold' and doesn't really qualify as news. The P2 is going to become a league unto itself and that's where the interest and money will reside. A completely new breed of college football, much in the same way as there's the NFL and then there's a handful of oh-yeah enterprises. I have no idea how many teams will eventually comprise the P2, but it will be a minority of the existing one hundred and thirty-odd teams we have today (now that constitutes bold and news! 😉). And I'm still not sold on the idea that there won't eventually be headcount reduction based on mandatory spending levels and revenue expectations. Forget the college of business, this is the business of college.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
