So my point was correct that SMU got out of the AAC by winning games. Their AD was bold enough to spend money(investing) in the ACC brand to bring in more money and align yourself with better athletic programs.

They didn't get out by winning games.

Remember their invite came before the 2023 season, so their only conference title as a G5 came after they already had been invited.

So from 2013 through 2022, SMU had 57 wins. USF in that same span has 50 wins. SMU's only season where they finished ranked was 23, post invite. No ranked finishes in the stretch that would have been evaluated. USF had 2 ranked finishes. 57 wins over 10 years, 5.7 wins a season. That's not why they were invited. They're a huge outlier in the realignment game because of how they were able to give up their primary tv funds for the rest of the ACC to profit from.

Love this!! It goes to show, “it takes money to make money”. That’s why all this talk about “should USF waste money on a stadium?”, the money will show up, it always does, that’s how UCF pulled a rabbit out of their hat. If we want to be taken serious, we have to BE serious. Our only goal should be to get out of the AAC and into a better conference and everything we do needs to push to that goal (yes, the OCS is part of that equation). If FSU and co. stays in the ACC, I really hope the B12 adds us. I don’t care about being in with UCF, being in the ACC or B12 is miles better than where we are.

Agreed.

When we got into the Big East... that was a shot in the arm to ucf. They doubled-down and it paid off big.

Even though I hate this situation we are in... I just remember when stadium talk started back in the Big East days. All I heard was silly excuses. Even in the AAC, more excuses. Everything our admin did was half-ass. When Taggart was here -- we should have built that stadium then!

ucf, cinci, and houston to the Big12 was the shot in the arm.

Now everything our admin is doing is amazing. I just don't want it to take 10 years for the payoff.

Whats their win percentage in the aac? I bet it is higher than usf. I don't recall them not winning any conference games or one fbs win in three seasons. I think they have been more sucessful in the AAC games and out of conference games.

Just like the Big East days... This timing is what hurt us...

Why would they hire a head coach with a drastically different play style... Imagine, if we had picked up a Golesh-type guy right after Taggart left.

If Golesh gets hired away, I hope they have continuity with play style. Then again, we are in the Transfer Portal/NIL era.

Dallas.

We have Texas, A&M, Baylor, TCU, SMU, Texas State, OU etc all within 3 hrs of Dallas, they sold their soul because their soul was affluent. They are as big in Dallas as USF is in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville is the armpit of Florida. Spot on. My cousins went to SMU and Baylor and neither of them cheer for them they follow TAMU and UT. Spot on.

Yeah but that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the ACC now has their toe in Texas which should help with more exposure in the long run.

Yeah I hear you until this season where freaking SMU is selling out their stadium which normally has about above 5 to 10k actual attendance a game. Now the tickets are selling like flapjacks all because they are in a power conference lol

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
