More than anything... even the CFP; we need to win the conference.

Straight up!

Then the big case would have been made for USF to jump to even the B1G (if possible).

Making the G5 CFP spot would be icing on the cake. And if it were possible, a true national championship.

I miss the days when saying "USF could win a natty" was literally within our reach.

Was that the weekend I finally made an account on The Bulls Pen in 2007?

IMO, we're going to have to win the AAC, keep Alabama a reasonable score, beat Miami at home, and beat both Tulane and Memphis or take 1 close loss there. That might be good enough to jump an undefeated Liberty, but still maybe not.

Now I'm not part of the CFP committee but if I were, the Alabama score is irrelevant. That's a likely top 4 contender so I wouldn't hold a beat down against any G5 playoff spot contender.

You beat just Miami and that's better than anything Liberty has on their schedule by a mile. App State is looking like their best opponent. Lose to both and you need a very strong AAC to emerge, otherwise you miss out just like SMU did after going 0-2 in P5 games.

After 4,000+ pages you guys are getting off topic with talk of conference championships instead of conference realignment. Just doing my part to get us to 5,000 pages.   😁

I didn't read it but perhaps we can tie it all together by saying if we win a conference championship this year we will be #1 in the realignment pool.

I agree that a lopsided loss wouldn't hurt us, but keeping it close would help.

Yeah, for the most part.

Miller led the charge in raising funds to ensure the SMU football program would be among the elite once again

Wouldn't have happened without the 80's Guy boillionaire. 0% chance of happening with out David Miller.

Must be nice ...... Still pretty confident that even if we had our own "David Miller" it wouldn't have happened for us. ACC wanted into Texas.

Maybe Brad meant that they wouldn't make the playoff this time around in the event that they went undefeated.

It was close to the same SoS last year. And they’re starting the season ranked.

... by the AP. After the butt kicking they got by the Ducks in the bowl, I'm guessing the Committee will take a little harder look this year at who's coming out of the G5 .... especially considering the bowl this year will actually mean something.

Agreed! Was watching some of the ACC media days yesterday and ACC Commish Jim Phillips basically said that their invitations to Cal, Stanford & SMU was in the works for some time even before FSU & Clemson wanting out. So I’m thinking the big 12 had to get their GOR deal in order as ACC would probably of grabbed more Texas schools imo

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
