I am hoping you are right on this!  If ACC goes away I would actually be pretty sad about it.  Probably how people on the west coast feel right now.

Part of me would not be sad after what they did to the Big East.  We've been wandering in the wilderness ever since.

If ESPN wants the ACC to exist, then they would exercise the option before 2/25 ends. However, if they don't exercise that right, the ACC goes to market. Would the ACC get more than they currently do? Hard to say.

If ESPN doesn't think it's worth the option, is Amazon or Fox or CBS going to be willing to pay more even with inflation?

If the ACC were to fold where would that leave USF? Worst case scenario, IMO. Where would those teams go? To the AAC? Remember we're talking about the BOTTOM half of the ACC? I don't see much improvement there.

Couldn't be in a worse place than we already are.

When USF joined CUSA, we were at least with Louisville and Cincinnati. We are currently peers with FAU.

I guess Syracuse, Pitt, Wake Forest, etc. would at least sound better than FAU, UTSA, and Rice.

It's not like they'd replace FAU, UTSA, and Rice.

I went to the USF @ UTSA basketball game last season... it honestly felt like a high school game.

ESPN just didn't have a vested interest in the PAC Ten.  The PAC Ten network was wholly owned by the conference... unlike ACC and SEC (owned by ESPN) and B1G (Fox and B1G split).

If ESPN also owned the PAC Ten Network, ESPN would have fought a lot harder to keep it together.  They did get UT/AZ/ASU/CU for the same price they offered for Pac 10.

The ACC Network is a very very big difference.  ESPN needs as many profit centers as possible, so why lose all that money?

Not necessarily.  Think of it like when NFL teams waive a player, the re-sign the player after clearing waivers.  ESPN could decline to rewew THIS contract but submit a bid for the NEXT contract.

Now, to your point, would that be MORE per team? Maybe.  If ESPN declines the option, the ACC is free to determine what the right size is... ACC teams would still face the cost of paying exit fees (and giving up their pro-rated share of exit fees)

But, again, I point out the ACC Network that is owned by ESPN.  It's not a ZERO chance the ACC breaks up... but it's much much less likely because of ESPN's vested interest in keeping as many ACC teams together as possible.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
