FSU isn’t leaving the ACC to join the big 12….

We didn't need McMurphy to tell us that.

While I agree this may be bad for us, I must admit it is really funny that it could happen to FSU after all the public whining.

Maybe the ACC will still add teams.

If FSU and Miami stay...

The probably will not add USF.

I still think USF should try to do everything to meet B1G criteria. Worst case, we end up in the Big12.

Agreed but IIRC, FSU wasn't leaving because they didn't think they were getting their fair share from the ACC financially.  At least not publicly (I could have missed that)

They made a big point that they were upset that the ACC didn't have enough cred to get them into the championship games.

I'm not sure going back to the ACC (or the B12) does for them.

With the recent denials from SEC and Big 10, I'm more convinced than ever that they are going to one of those leagues.

They might have taken a flyer on the Big 12 which is using that conversation to pump up their own importance.  I think we've all seen through that.

Did they? Admittedly I don't follow it that close but don't recall them outright dissing their current home in regards to on the field competitiveness like that ....

No... I'm pretty sure the issue was revenue for their brand vis-a-vis the revenue available in the B1G/SEC. The dismissal from the playoff was not a factor in the decision to leave the ACC (hence inclusion of Clemson). If you wanna read a quick history of this movement, here's this:FSU vs. ACC: How did we get here? Revenue issues, Grant of Rights and more. This was last updated in December of '23, but rumblings began in May of '23, long before the playoff exclusion.

Quote

“Today we’ve reached a crossroad in our relationship with the ACC,” FSU Board of Trustees chair Peter Collins said. “I believe this board has been left no choice but to challenge the legitimacy of the ACC grant of rights and its severe withdrawal penalties”

“They’re going to say we’re bitter...but actions today are less about the events of the last two weeks and more about the actions of the leadership of the ACC over the past 10 years and what confronts FSU in the 13 years.”

Speculation began stirring when reports surfaced earlier this week about FSU exploring its future in the ACC. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Florida State will likely partner with Sixth Street Partners to help fund the ACC exit.

Florida State’s relationship with the conference has become increasingly strained over the last year. Florida State Athletic Director Michael Alford gave a presentation to the FSU Board of Trustees last February outlining the growing financial gap ACC schools will be facing compared to those in the Big Ten and SEC. Alford gave a blunt summation of the situation with “Something has to change.

Just prior to the annual ACC meetings in May 2023 news of the “Magnificent Seven” in the ACC sent shock waves across the college football landscape. It became known that Florida State, Clemson, Miami, UNC, NC State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech had explored possible avenues to leave the conference.

lol. I don't care if it's true, but that's some nice copium from Mr. Space Knight.

Re: "The B1G would take Miami over usf"

First, he's forgetting that Miami is also tied up with the ACC via the GoR and has a relatively small enrollment/alumni base.

Just someone else throwing out their opinion.  No rush to expand, teams don't want to share their earnings. I'd really be surprised if anything happens for the next 4-5 years.  This thread is going to be huge!!
