Give me the one that puts us in the best position to win a national championship.

2. Current abode

I assume you meant men's lacrosse.

But I have to wonder if joining the ACC means more sports... Field Hockey, Fencing, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Swimming & Diving, and Women's Rowing are all in the conference, but not all schools offer them.

With athletes about to be paid by the schools in the ACC it would be hard to add a bunch of sports (without dropping at least the equivalent). I think over the next 20 years, sadly we are going to see a overall decrease in the sports offered.

So what league is the sweet spot for both these scenarios?

I personally, have zero interest in playing the remaining B12 schools (although I would jump off offered and I'm sure I could grow to appreciate them).

I think a gutted ACC is still preferable.  It feels a lot like rejoining the Big East without the basketball only schools which were problematic. Added bonus if we started a lacrosse program.

If we do we'll there it would position us for a future G2 when things deteriorate.  Call it the "Legolas Strategy".

Does the Weatherford brothers help our chance of being the prime candidate to replace FSU in the ACC?

serious question- do we have any timeline for a legal decision regarding the ACC and FSU et al and is this decision considered by most to be the impetus for the next 'shake up'?

Once school-controlled NIL gets sorted out with Title IX and other looming student-athlete vs. employee issues, I suspect there will be significant impacts in this regard.  Sea change may be coming.

I don't think the ACC cares about them in particular. But, Michael Kelly as AD makes a huge difference. He was an Associate Commisioner in the ACC, and would be familiar to that league.

Good question.  Furthermore, does that need to be settled before them asking new members to join?

Stanford tried that during the pandemic and their alumni ripped them to shreds.  But the economic realities might give way.

One bigger issue could be the impact on Team USA in the Olympics.  Right now only 15 schools offer men's gymnastics, and a significant portion of our Olympians over the years came from the college ranks.  Cutting programs like wrestling, fencing, rowing, and others will make it harder for the US to build those programs.   So we might see some greater support from the US Olympic Committee when it comes to some of those sports that are closer to the edge.   (One example I read was co-hosting events, to allow the USOC to bear more of the cost of putting on the events.)

I don't think there is a timeline. In that court cases can be dragged out, and settlements can happen at any time.

I don't think the ACC adds anyone until they know who is leaving. For example, lets say it is just 1 school, FSU. They might not add anyone.

The wildcard would be the Big 12 adding us now to "block" the ACC. This is a long shot, but certainly possible.

If the Big 12 could go back in time, I think they would take us instead of Cincinnati, but, no need to worry about that, we need to focus on building our brand to make sure we never get left behind again.
