I just do NOT trust the CFP committee to produce the rankings correctly.

Ya'll remember in 2016 and 2017 -- how the AP and Coaches polls had USF end the season in the top 25; but the CFP did not?

Yeah, being G5 is garbage. Straight up.

Oh no that's definitely a valid concern. They'll definitely have a guaranteed G5 champ. They've answered that question specifically even if none are technically in the CFP top 25. They'll rank the G5 champs separately and the best will be the 5th champ.

But will USF get a fair shake compared to the AP and coaches? Definitely not guaranteed.

I got excited this morning when I saw all these new pages. I thought it was happening. I should have known it was just normal realignment thread chatter (which I thoroughly enjoy BTW).

Me earlier... 😂🤘

For future reference, if anything regarding us actually happens it won't be in this thread ....

That's not what my secret sources told me. They said real news will break once we hit 5000 pages here.

My bold prediction, this thread will die before 5000 pages.

The good news is coming before too long.

Yes and no. Technically there is no spot specifically assigned to the P4 or G5 in the new 12 team format. Just 5 spots locked for the highest ranked conference champs. And then of those 5, the top 4 get a first round bye and ranked as 1-4 for the bracket, regardless of what their CFP poll rank was. Conference champ #5 gets seeded alongside the 7 at large so they can even be seeded as #12.

This is going to be interesting.

Imagine we have B1G A at 13-0, B1G B at 12-1, SEC A at 13-0, and SEC B a 12-1.  With ACC at 10-3 and B12 at 9-4.  The seeding could be:

  1. B1G A
  2. SEC A
  3. ACC
  4. B12
  5. SEC B
  6. B1G B

So a 9-4 Kansas team could get a bye while a 12-1 Michigan or Alabama gets a home game against #12 or #11 seed.  HA!

Security has informed me that something will happen and we will have it here in a box in the back.

People complaining about who is in or out at 11 or 12 or got a bad seed is much better situation than we have ever had.

Exactly the kind of scenario that'll happen!

And to be honest, SEC B who gets the 5 seed is the winner here. Because more often than not, the G5 champ will be the 12 seed. So round 1 it's G5 champ @ SEC B. Round 2 will be SEC B vs ACC or Big 12 champ depending on who is 4 that year. On paper 2 very favorable games to end up in the semifinals. Probably also why ND isn't stressing too bad about being capped at 5 seed at best.
